I knew a young woman whose mother named her "May Belle," thinking her daughter would turn out as pretty as her name---but she most definitely did not, neither physically nor in character. She's not a criminal, but she's not very nice, either. I know of a man named "Vinyl," pronounced as "Vigh-nell" because his mother liked the sound of the word for the plastic material that covers restaurant seating which was where he was conceived. Not entirely weird, but 71 years ago, when my late aunt was pregnant with what they thought was her fourth child, she ended up having twin boys (no ultrasounds back then, of course so total surprise). She had already named the first one James John (not his real name), and in a panic induced by not knowing there would another baby, let alone another boy, she just turned the names around and named the twin John James (also not his real name, of course). There are so many name travesties around, it's nearly impossible to avoid them anymore.
