I'm so glad this game is getting a revival. I've put a good 600 hours into it in the past year or so. There are so many cool historical details and interesting playstyles. Not to mention the immersive, and realistic the pop system and INCREDIBLE modding community. Hearing that the next Europa Universalis will have a similar pop system has gotten me very excited for the future of Paradox games

Quite frankly, the Paradox curse is their fanbase. Extremely autistic and aggressive.

I didn't play the same games you listed but i did play hundreds of hours of AOH2 and man, i'm glad to know i'm not the only one that gets pissed because of what colors for are used for each countries in real life maps. Also the personification thing is too real, i get myself personifing not only my nation but enemy nations and allied nations, when in reality they're just plots of land with a color over them.

CK2 was my first paradox game also and it changed my view on what was possible in terms of depth loved it then love it now

What really brings me back to paradox games is decisions and focus trees. It gives you a goal and an intresting playthrough

Victoria 3 could have become a great game. I honestly don’t understand how you can protect the game so much. The only flavour that can be found is within the ottomans and USA until mid game. Most other flavour features consist of 1-2 events. One could argue that this may be the biggest detriment to the game since major powers like Austria, Prussia, UK and Russia do not have any flavour. In the end, the game is a massive spreadsheet sim as the war mechanics do not demand any real input. Compared to other Paradox games, you do not feel in control. In EU4, Hoi4, stellaris and other titles give you more or less total control over the economy, diplomacy and warfare. Those are crucial aspects of a strategy game. The biggest point is that many features have been developed across the years. Victoria 2 had a decent warfare system, hoi4 has a good system now. Imagine hoi5 with NO features from hoi4, as if it never existed. Then it feels as if paradox is trying to milk their games. It does not support innovation as they already know what features are necessary etc. paradox has created a golden era of strategy games and instead of carrying on innovating, they would rather try and milk. A case is CSL 2 which did start off with many features of CSL 1, BUT the game felt unfinished, especially as it was proven that the core mechanics of deep sim were fabricated (idk if one could actually sue them for that). The game felt as if it had little replay value, just like Vic 3. Why? No flavour. It’s all a cycle in the end

I am a relatively new paradox player. In my childhood I mostly played total war and the tropico series (and age of empires). Over ten years ago I once tried out hearts of iron 3 but I didn't like the game and somehow never picked up a paradox game again. Then when crusader kings 3 released I tried it out and from there on I became a passionate paradox player. Ck 3 was the first paradox game I got into and from there on I expanded into other titles, especially imperator rome conquered my heart rapidly.

its dumb people expect to get the same amount of features from eu5 as they did with eu4 after 11 years of dlcs and patches. every new gameis the foundation to build the new game on, with community input.

best map in any paradox game imo is the shaded relief map mod for vicky 3

theres no feeling that comes close to starting out as a small green dot on the map and after hours of gameplay being a giant green blob that has devoured half the map :D
