I think he misunderstood. This was supposed to be about learning how to play it. Not watch you try to show off playing it

I had the fortune of seeing Doc Watson, David Bromberg and Arlo Guthrie together once in El Paso. What a time!

Leo's unmistakable style can be heard even under two other great players trading lead. He's such a great player, even still today.

Kotke leaves no space, tough to add anything. Doc should just start singing.

That wouldn't be intimidating at all sitting between Chet and Doc playing guitar 🎸

Love it, John Fahey like. And the ring of your Martin. What strings are you using?

I have the barest of memories of Doc busking in my hometown in NE TN in the late 50's. Playing in front of 5 and dime, with a cigar box in front of him. I was 2 or 3.

Doc & Chet with (by-age-only) neophyte Leo. Music as sweet as it gets. Flat & finger pickin' by the best. Was a Doc fan before even Chet. Leo joined in the early 70s. Good stuff! 🔥👍

Thanks! Keep the Doc's medicine going on and on and on. May that flat-pickin' virtuosity never be gone!

I first heard John Fahey play this in 1971. Bizarrely, I just learned that Fahey wrote this piece in 1964. Fahey's version, of course, is slower, dark and brooding. I'm much more in tune with this cheerful, moderately up tempo version, lit by Kotke's perpetual good humor. I really love the way Kotke the puppy integrates with two of the biggest old dogs in the biz, and it looks to me as if all three of them had a wonderful time. I sure did!

Very impressed. I think ALL songs to learn should have the tabs on screen with the moving indicator!! Well, done. One of the best vids on this song and to learn for sure. You earned a sub, excited to look around your page. Skip is the man!

"You can find some gooooood country runs in that thing, I mean them *hillbilly* runs." High praise from Doc!!

Fabulous lesson. You have captured all the strangeness and texture of the original - must have been an ordeal to tab! Will do my best to get stuck into this. Many thanks for your generosity!

Althought this video shows 4:3 aspect ratio (and it shows distorted indeed), these Canon FS camcorders shoot in 16:9 aspect ratio. In Premiere Pro you have to look for the "interpret footage" function and then clic the 16:9 option and voilá.

Shredders got absolutely nothing on this. Doc and Chet dropping jaws. Kottke does almost his whole solo in first position, and it’s f%$#king incredible. Chef's kiss.

This was super cool! I was working on Modoc by Steve Morse and searched for “instrumental songs in open e” and stumbled across this. I’m glad I did.

I saw Leo live about an hour ago and he said that this came together because an airline wanted him to be the “coverboy” for the airline. He went and they told him to bring his favorite guitar , he said “they didn’t know they had broken my favorite guitar on my way here”. Once he got there he found out there were two other “chumps”, on arrival he found out it was Chet and Doc 😂, figured some may find that interesting.
