Can it also be controlled from a Windows tablet?Alpaca would work for a Pentax Aspc? K3 or K3 III, which driver should I choose? When you choose the camera, what should I put for my Pentax? Thanks for the video

Yes, you can control Nina from a tablet by using a Remote Desktop app like Splashtop Personal (free). Ideally the Alpaca Driver would be embedded within the Polaris, but unfortunately Benro hasn't collaborated and there are limitations with the architecture. Please refer to the github Hardware documentation for the different types of architectures recommended. github.com/ogecko/alpaca-benro-polaris/blob/main/docs/hardware.md

Hi David, I'm getting an error: " could not find a version that satisfies the requirements falcon==3.1.3 (from versions:none ". Do you have any help/advice for me? I've connected to the BP using a TP ac600. I had to reinstall python to allow pip and to add python to environment variables. I also changed the host file in the etc driver folder. I'm really excited to eventually get it all working. And we as a community all really appreciate all the effort you put into this. From the driver, to the youtube videos and replies to comments. You're a legend sir

David, when I run the pip command after confirming that all the files are there and the Benro is connected, I get a “falcon==3.1.3” error. I looked online and they had something to do with Python, but that’s all I could understand. Any ideas?

I'm not sure whats going wrong. Could you join the Alpaca Benro Polaris Support Discord Server at discord.gg/uqqM9Wqz. There are more people with MacOS who may be able to help. Post a message to the #support-alpaca topic, listing more details of the error message you get. Hope this helps.

Hi, if you cannot connect to the polaris_XXXXX wifi, I'd suggest trying to use a USB Wifi Dongle. Refer to Troubleshooting C0 for more details. github.com/ogecko/alpaca-benro-polaris/blob/dev/docs/troubleshooting.md#c0---cannot-connect-win11-computer-or-laptop-to-benro-polaris-wifi

I just purchased a Benro Polaris and it arrived yesterday. I am new both to Astro photography, but not new to photography. A am also not a big tech geek. I am interested in learning more about Alpaca for use with Polaris, but I have been finding all of the stuff on line about what Alpaca is and how to use it quite daunting and over my head. What I (and I presume many others) need is a Polaris/Alpaca 101, from what it does, to how to install it, how to link it to the Polaris etc. Is there something like that?

@jdm5001 Ай бұрын
Hi Markl, congratulations on purchasing the Polaris. I can understand it can be a bit daunting initially as there is a lot to learn. To help give an overview and provide some answers to your questions, I've created a new page in the documentation as a Benginners Guide. You can find it at github.com/ogecko/alpaca-benro-polaris/blob/dev/docs/beginners.md Hope this helps.

Hi David - Awesome work! How do you connect Canon R5 to the computer running Nina + Alpaca? Is it the USB or wireless connection? If USB, how do you solve the wire tangle and wraparound?
@jdm5001
@jdm5001 Ай бұрын
Hi, I connect the Canon R5 via USB cable to a miniPC, hanging from my tripod. Once pointed to a target the Camera doesn't move that much over 2-3hrs so I haven't had any problem getting the cable tangled.

I’m a supporter of this kickstart project and really excited at the possibilities it could open. I have followed the instructions here and in the instruction but no matter what I do, neither my Win11 laptop nor mini computer will connect to the Polaris Wi-Fi hotspot. In fact, on my laptop, attempting to connect causes Windows to disable my Wi-Fi controller. Is there something really obvious I’m doing wrong.

Hi, if you are using a work computer, its possible that IT has a security policy that prevents you from connecting to open Wifi hotspots like the Benro Polaris. Another issue is that some embedded wifi adapters have problems to connect to the BP. You might want to try using TP-Link AC600 USB WiFi Adapter mentioned in the hardware.md. This adapter has overcome several peoples problems connecting their machine to the Polaris hotspot.

@@jdm5001 Thank you - that little, cheap Wi-Fi adapter did the trick and I can connect to the Polaris now without problem. Fantastic to see the Polaris slewing to targets from both Stellarium and NINA - just need a clear night now.

I just became a backer. I don’t understand this but if I can learn deep space and have success with equipment I already have, it would be amazing. I hope you can create tutorials when this software is released.

Thanks for backing the project. I agree with you, its quite challenging to tailor content to the various experience levels everyone has. I originally bought the BP as a camera tripod head and got curious into astro over the last year. There's always a lot to learn and the great thing is everyone can do it at their own pace. I'm curious what type of tutorials you'd be interested in.

Will Stellarium on the iPhone be able to connect to the Polaris via Wi-Fi or is a cable necessary?
@jdm5001

Stellarium needs to connect to the Device running the Alpaca Driver (can be via Wifi). The Alpaca Driver connects to BP via Wifi.

The Alpaca Driver will be an open source software release. The software needs to be installed and setup on a Mini-PC, Laptop, Desktop, Raspberry Pi , SurfacePC, or other device that can join the BP's Wifi Hotspot.

Dave, great to have a serious DSLR astrophotographer and computer programmer remodel how BP should work. As a mere hobby astrophotographer and not a programmer with no experience of telescopes a couple of questions, as you left me behind… 1. The Stellarium app you are using is desktop based. How does this connect with BP and the iPhone controlling it? 2. How will it work in the middle of nowhere - will i need to take a laptop with me? Clarification would be very helpful. Keep up the good work. Jonathan
@jdm5001
@jdm5001 3 ай бұрын
@jonathanshribman4813 thanks for the feedback. There are a few options, but I recently used Nina, Stellarium and ABP in the middle of nowhere. BP App connects to BP hotspot as usual. MiniPC running Nina (to camera via USB), ABP (to BP's hotspot via wifi), and Stellarium to ABP (via Synscan). On a separate laptop I connect to the Mini-PC's own hotspot (stronger than the BPs). The laptop lets me control everything inside in the warmth. If Stellarium is too slow over Remote Desktop, I can run it on the laptop and connect to the MiniPC remotely with SynScan. A bit tricky to get going, its much easier if you have a home wifi.
