I get the way this world is heading to. We will probably see virtual museums with all these IA thing developing. But we will lose the touch with the reality of see a real artifact from millions of years. There is not way back. I see it happening soon. All digital and for many a great experience. For others not much.

Hello Smithsonian. First thing first : thank you very much for uploading this workshop. It's really clear and since there isn't much documentation nor tuto on the net it's very helpful. However, i'm not sure i really understand the point of the "Derivatives" button. I'm mean, you can check the quality and de size/unit of your model with most of the other button, can you clarify this one maybe ? Thanks for reading and for your time.
@IgorBajena
@IgorBajena 3 ай бұрын
Hello! I'm not from the Smithsonian Team, but I had a chance to dive into Voyager, and I think I understand this derivatives feature. You can upload different complexity of your model under derivative option. For example, you have quite a heavy model, which takes a while to load. You can upload the same model with textures in lower quality and a reduced number of vertices as a "low" derivative. Then, during loading, Voyager will load first your lower quality model, then the model in full resolution. You can also set different derivatives load for different screen resolutions; for instance, you can use lower model quality for devices like smartphones or tablets, while full resolution can be reserved just for computers.

If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend the book "Benedict Arnold's Navy." It's a great insight to the Battle of Valcour, but even more so an insight into Arnold's career in the Continental Army and what lead to him committing treason. He was once one of George Washington's most trusted and favored Generals, and by the end of the book, you find your self sympathetic with his cause...perhaps even able to relate. History classes certainly brush over the details, and too easily focus only on him being a traitor. I can't help but feel history would tell a different story had it not been for his efforts. It's arguable that just the Battle of Valcour alone may have been a pivotal point in the Revolutionary War.

How are they able to dissect the multiple layers of the suit from the exterior of the suit itself? The suit was so sophisticated that it blocked all the radiation and cosmic rays while standing on the surface of the moon, yet we have cameras and laser measuring technology that completely penetrate, inspect, analyze and determine the integrity of each of the different layers - from the outside of the suit looking in..? If x-rays, gamma rays etc are blocked/shielded and cannot penetrate through, what kind of technology are they using to do this? How come the medical industry hasn't picked up on it yet? Why are we still using x-rays to diagnose internal injuries, broken bones etc. when we have something that can see through anything with out the risk of radiation to the patients, doctors, x-ray techs. Just what are these guys are using to do accomplish this? Doesn't that seem a little odd? Why aren't these suits being used by everyone thats working in a hot zone at any number of Nuclear Power Plants across the nation? I work at HANFORD NUCLEAR PLANT (where the plutonium that vaporized Hiroshima was produced). We've got hot zones that we individually can't be in for more than 2 mins at a time while performing our task(s) that in a non hot zone are a 30hr task performed by one person. Can you imagine how much work gets done when you have to switch out with another worker every 2 minutes on a 30hr job? We're forced to have a line of 45 employees standing suited and booted ready to work for 2 mins..we can barely get to the area we need to get to before they're dragging us out. We would kill for a suit that provided the amount of shielding that these suits supposedly provided the astronauts so they could play in the dust on the moon. Trust me, we've researched it..the company that produced them say, we were not contracted in anyway to provide radiation shielding within those suits so if we did, it must have been top secret and has never been released for public dissemination. The truth is, not one material used either individually or multiple layers of all the materials compiled together in the space suit has any radiation protection PERIOD The capabilities were not possible. There was no way to shield the astro's against the lethal dosage of continually bombarding killer electrons, gamma rays, cosmic rays etc. with those suits, They would have died several times over with every passing hour or so.

You put on the hugs space suit with the huge head piece, then you can move around. I am more inclined to ask about the batteries that powered everything including the rover, using 60s battery technology.
@TheWokeFlatEarthTruth
@TheWokeFlatEarthTruth Жыл бұрын
@@Pippy_Pappy Hi PP, hope that you are well. You wrote that "batteries ...powered everything". This is not correct. The main source of electrical power in the Apollo Command Module was from a set of three fuel cells housed in the Service Module. As for the Lunar Rover electrical power was provided by two 36-volt silver-zinc potassium hydroxide batteries developed by Eagle-Picher with a charge capacity of 121 A·h each giving a range of some 90 km). These were used to power the drive and steering motors and also a 36-volt utility outlet mounted on the front of the LRV to power the communications relay unit or the TV camera. These batteries were non-rechargeable and prohibitable expensive for general sale. Take care.

Amazing that we couldn't build the same Saturn 5 rocket today We dont have the skills
@randymartens1823
@randymartens1823 3 жыл бұрын
The Saturn V rocket could be rebuilt fairly easily, just like engineers could easily rebuild a Model T Ford. The knowledge is there. So while we have the skill, we just lack the will. Without the will, which the country had in great abundance back in the 1960's due largely to the very real threat of Soviet communism, all the skill in the world becomes relatively useless.
