Sara Teasdale 1920 "There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground, And swallows circling with their shimmering sound; And frogs in the pool singing at night, And wild plum trees in tremulous white; Robins will wear their feathery fire, Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire; And not one will know of the war, not one Will care at last when it is done. Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree, If mankind perished utterly; And Spring herself when she woke at dawn Would scarcely know that we were gone."

I remember when I read the poem when I was in 10th grade and watched this as an assignment, and when I first read it I had a weird gut feeling that something like this is real and it may happen. I'm a Christian, and I know there is a rapture going to happen where a lot of us won't be on this earth. Looking at the world from then to now, the way we are heading and the fact that we have this AI stuff and WW3 on the horizon, and being 3 years until 2026, I can see things unfolding before my eyes. The poems seems to be getting more real everyday. I don't know about y'all but Imma keep my eyes on everything.

I always found this poem mortifying as at first you think maybe the house is just abandoned but as it goes on you realize everyone is gone a nuclear war of some sorts killed everyone, and a sense of dread sets in as you realize one other thing. How long could this of been going on? Maybe days the house has been taking care of the family maybe years.

I love this story so much! it's kind of sad how many people find it boring. it definitely doesn't instill a feeling of overwhelming happiness in you. But, it's an intriguing concept to think about. especially in a time where this is becoming more and more believable, and less farfetched. I've never read it in school before, but that's probably because I'm only going into 9th grade next year. anyway, my friend referred it to me and I'm absolutely obsessed. I wish this was a series. it would certainly be a depressing one though. something about nuclear war situations gives you a certain feeling. In stories, you know it's going to bother you for a long time, but you continue to read on. kind of how when you look at something that you know you probably shouldn't. But, your curiosity drives you to continue. if only is there was more to continue on.

Ray Bradbury wrote a Lot of short stories, and novels as well. Not the same theme, but comparable to an Edgar Allen Poe story is one called The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl. It's suspenseful and fascinating and I highly recommend it. I don't know if it is recorded as an audio story, though. It's not a novel, just a short story. Also- one of his most famous short stories is one called The Veldt. I also recommend that one.

@@robertrobertson4576 Start with what makes the house different from other dwellings and expound from there. You can always edit, edit, edit... frankly, the concept of AI running our home environment is a little scary to me, not because I fear our robot overlords, but because, since AI is not actually human, per se, I would be ultimately suspicious of it's true intentions.

Reading material for school is like spoiling yourself. There are tons of garbage stories online, and when you finally dig up a gem, you will find students who don't cherish a good work because they haven't stuck in front of piles of trash yet.

I came here from a comment somewhere about this story. Very interesting and thought provoking. Somewhat disturbing. Could easily be an episode of Tales from the loop or Black Mirror later seasons. I understand how people that came here for school feel this is boring. I would've thought so too if I was forced to read it. Reading is awesome, but only when done because you want to. If not it's just boring.

I'm currently here from school, tempted to place my answers to the questions assigned to me in these here comments. It is 2:00AM, and I don't plan on sleeping anytime soon, It is currently Friday, where I have around 8 assignments due on this day, The house is silent, only the gentle whirring of the computer breaking the silence when the story isn't being read, My room is dim, with the only lights being a warm glow from a weak lamp across the room, and the glow from the computer screen, I feel depressed, my grades staggering, I feel empty, where I try to muster up the motivation to complete my objectives. And yet here I am, typing away at a comment that will likely never be seen... And the off chance someone does see it, the odds of them showing the interest to continue reading is slim. if someone is here, its because of school. Some find the audio book interesting, others find it a pain to sit and listen. If someone sees this comment, I will never know, and if someone actually bothers to read this, I will never know. What does it matter, why do I type this comment, knowing it will never be seen? ... It can sit quietly, undisturbed. It won't be lost within the ocean of comments on every video... It will stand out from the rest, on the slim chance it is seen... Where it won't be a simple one sentence, But many boring and monotone sentences that show how plain I really am. And for those who have read this far, what made you continue reading? Curiosity? Interest? ... Boredom? Who knows, it could be anything. I guess that's for you do decide...

hey- I'll answer your question. I am also here for school, like you guessed (shocker), but I am surprised to be here. I'm surprised to be revisiting this author, who I had once read in 7th grade (2012). I'm a super senior in college now, and I can answer why people have read your comment, regardless of how long it may have taken them. there are 7 billion people on this planet, but everyone is constantly on the go, on the rush. doing and doing, working and achieving. You seem just like me, procrastinating, pushing off, dreading. You also stopped, you broke the continuum, the cycle, the loop. You paused and reflected, you took yourself out of the moment. I used to do that a lot too, but fell down a slippery rope of escapism, of wanting to be somewhere other than wherever "here" was. But here's something for you to never forget; your voice. Your personality shines through, your true inner being. That's why we stopped to read, and that's why you are met with random comments telling you to go on. Just like my comment might be lost in the sea of constant motion, yours might be too, but that's no reason to keep drifting aimlessly. Put your anchor down sometimes, or you'll keep sailing and one day the waves might reach you, pull you in, and drown you. Good thing you're a strong swimmer though!
