Bret infact screwed Bret. However, I find it interesting because there were other instances where wrestlers refused to put somebody over. Steve Austin walked away once, and we all know CM Junk ran his mouth like he does... but they came back. In that regard, WWE really did screw Bret and it was just the timing of that era. All the cheesy baby faces from the mid 90s were getting overshadowed by the cool heels at the time. HHH and Shawn were on another level and tight with the business. I wish we got to see Bret Hart more in the attitude era. Damn shame Goldberg in WCW ended his career. Hart would've came back in early 2000's if he didn't get injured. Imagine if we got Hart vs Angle at Wrestlemania or Hart vs Shawn Michaels again.... In another alternate universe that magic happened. Goldberg is garbage and robbed us all.

The Hulk thing was way different. Reason? Bret Had done business with Shawn many, many times before. And even dropped the belt to him once. In fact, that was the first time Shawn won the belt. Bret didn't want to drop the belt to Shawn because he told him he wouldn't do the same for him. It was more of a timing thing...they just so happened to have this huge real feud right when Bret was going to WCW, and Bret had to choose between his pride to let someone disrespect him and putting over WWF. The problem he had was that Vince didn't seem to want to let Bret drop the belt to anyone else, he even said he would drop it to Steve Austin or Undertaker the next night on Raw. But Vince needed him to drop it against someone on PPV. Now do I disagree with what Vince did? No. But I do disagree with Hunter that the Hulk and Bret thing was the same thing as the Shawn and Bret thing

Tripple H was on point here. Brett was a baby about a record that meant nothing and changed nothing. Its a tradition to put the up and comer over especially when walking away and he wanted everything his way. Im suprised no one really kicked that guys ass.

Honestly to be asked about the whole situation a few weeks after it happened is a little bit far fetched . This was a situation where Bret felt disrespected by Michaels and he wasnt going to put somebody over that felt that way . So McMahon did what he felt he had to do . Michaels went alo g with it because it was also his livelihood on the line as well . Bret was a little naive thinking that they were just going to let him call the shots and do things on his terms . IMO HHH handled that as discreetly as possible as not to rock the boat let alone show any bias on either side .Pretty sure McMahon told them ahead of time how to handle it just in case . Though it did make for some interesting TV at the time . Wrestling changed big time after this . The gloves were off and nothing was hidden .This is what wrestling needs . Some good ol controversy and angles that blur the lines between fact and fiction to where even diehard fans will question the legitimacy of what is shown . Then again the corporate powers that be will censor it to a fault .

I back Triple H 100% on this and always have. Whether or not Bret was going to take the belt to WCW is not the point. Vince wanted Bret to drop it to Shawn but instead Bret acted like a spoiled 10 year old to a man who made him rich and famous!
