I just bought a 2019 Hobie 17t, and I'm wondering if this rudder upgrade will fit my kayak?

It depends what hobie. If you got the Hobie OUTBACK, then yes.

I have a 2024 outback will it be the same mechanism to upgrade to SAI XL?

I did mine the same way and I love it. One thing to note is if you just blew the spacer on either side of the rudder it's a lot easier to install

No it wont. Its a rudder system designed for the 2019 and up Hobie Outback and Hobie Compass.

This is great! I have to replace my left mirage foot pedal however cannot seem to locate it online unless I want to replace the entire drive. I've been pretty much pushing on the bar. Not super comfortable but can use the assistance!

Does this rudder hit the top of the kayak when its lifted up?

No it doesnt hit the kayak anymore than the stock rudder

I can see why it broke now, when I do mine maybe a piece of shrink tube will help in the axle hole to stop the sharp edges from cutting it , or try to smooth edges with a file. Thanks for the video 🍻 Cheers

I love it! Very high quality and good looking rudder. Rigid rudder that doesnt flex when turning. I can make sharper turns too because its larger than the stock rudder.

Where did you get the mount that attaches to both rails on the outback? I have been looking for something similar but have yet to find someone selling something similar.

Thanks for the video. Hey how does that XL rudder works on your outback? I have a 2019 compass, deciding between the regular or the xl. Do you know if the xl will fit on the compass as well.

Yes the XL will fit the compass as well. If you use the gray loading block, you do have to make a small cut into the loading block for it to fit.

My 2021 just arrived at Outdoor Emporium in Seattle. I’m going to upgrade to this rudder once I try out the boat a few times. In Seattle, go see KEVIN down at Outdoor next to the two Seattle Pro Statiums.

Hi, are you still able to use rudder protection block after this modification?

If you want to use the loading block, the rudder sticks about half an inch into the block. I used a hack saw to make an opening.

I love how you use a Leatherman tool. I have one on me all the time, and then flattening out the cord with the lighter is exactly how I do it. Too cool
