Good Lord! I’ve hit the point good a few times, but that was sweet. Caught stripers like that a couple times in the early 2000’s. 👍

I’d take break blocks out. Just use the mags and get greater distance. Otherwise use the stock bearings (clean with lighter fluid and add tournament rocket fuel oil). It’s still safe without the break blocks. For ultimate distance, wind mags off fully during cast.

What lb test u got on it

You will probably have better results if the orange bearing seals are removed, the ceramic bearings are left dry (or as I do, give them a bath in naphtha - lighter fluid - and allow the solvent to evaporate, leaving a micro film of oil) and all the brake blocks are completely removed from the brake block array (taken off, not just locked off). This will typically allow for a 2 minute spool run (loaded with main line and shock leader) and with the brake array totally off ... or as off as it will allow - brake arrays may impart too much magnetic force (eddy currents) on the spool and not allow maximum spool spin duration; this may be alleviated if some of the magnets in the array can be removed - or better yet, use a reel with a mono mag ... yeah, tournament casting, but the fish won't care. For fishing, set the mag brake array for about a 10 second spin and do some casting tests with the typical payload thrown. Distance can improved if the mag array is quickly removed while the payload is in flight, stopping the spool just before it fluffs on hitting the water. Experiment. It can mean serious added distance out past the second sandbar where the fishies are feeding. Of course, casting technique is paramount. This vid is 3 years old, you probably figured all this out already. :)

Was it a spider hitch to Albright? Usually a spider hitch is just the loop.

Hi mate ,have found your channel and subscribed.I am glad you did this as I am sick of hearing the wank in sales pitches ,like this reel has 22 lbs of drag or that reel had 30 lbs etc.It is an absolute l load of crap .If you have say 60 yards of 20lb line out on the beach with a fish on,the rod has to load right up before any drag gets even used, probably putting 2 to 3 lbs of pressure on , seriously in reality 4 lbs of drag is almost lock up.

One of my best casting reels is an older Penn Kimberly which is basically a rebadged ABU 7000 when ABU were assembled by Omoto. It only has the brass bushes in it,no idea why but it casts real well even up against my bearing reels.

So I bought two sets for my Ambassadeur's for $70 dollars, and now I'm thinking I made a huge mistake! Ten feet extra seems to be the distance most people are getting. I could have bought another used reel for that price

I work in neighboring Fairfax County as a firefighter. My in-laws live down the street, I saw the smoke and decided to check it out. I was not on duty.

In other pictures and videos it doesn't appear to be accessible for VES. However I wasn't there. Rural water ops sounded good from what I heard. Ladder pipe went up at some point.
