One basic question, do we have to use the same account to log in to Git than Power BI service? What if I'm working for a client from a consulting firm, have to open a new git account?

@Seth - I normally think that you weigh in with the most well-thought out reasoned comments, but I'm going to have to go with team Mike on the comma placement issue. I'm an accountant that taught myself SQL to access data from our financial system more effectively. I initially used commas at the end until my mentor programmer taught me the comma in front method. I still consider it one of the best tips I've been given. I'm constantly doing ad hoc queries in TOAD to find and analyze information for me and my co-workers. This often involves using template code where I've got many lines of possible ways to choose and filter the transactional data commented out and I can just uncomment and modify to fit the current scenario. For any code section that takes up more than one line (for example, almost anytime you are using a CASE statement), so easily seeing the comma delineating the sections is so useful. You don't have to read what the code is saying to see if a new section is starting or move your gaze around the screen to find the comma. Bonus SQL tip for ad hoc and getting to know the data code - start your where clause with 1=1. It will always be true and then you can just comment in and out the rest of the sections in the where clause without having to change the and/or's.

Kimball’s idea of dimensional approach as an API for data. The dimensions are the interface of the data.

12:21 -- I was just playing around with GitHub Copilot in a T-SQL query today. It has absolutely *no* context of the database that you're querying, so it'll auto-complete joins to tables that don't exist, on columns that don't exist, etc. Utter garbage; worse than useless. Contrast that with IntelliSense, which *does* have the context of the database you're querying, so its suggestions are always relevant, and it will *never* auto-complete a reference to something that doesn't exist. It would be really helpful if GitHub Copilot could harness IntelliSense behind the scenes to provide it with the necessary database context, and then offer its auto-complete suggestions based on that.

Man, that article is just overflowing with gatekeeping nonsense. 🙄 It doesn't matter at all which tool you use for data engineering, as long as it's performant, cost-effective, and maintainable. 😎

I have been trying to convert my Gen1 to Gen2, however, I frequently run into issues where Gen2 Dataflows run out of memory where the exact same power query in Gen1 runs and stores without issues.
@PowerBITips
@PowerBITips 11 күн бұрын
This has been a common issue for me as well. Sadly we need some more robust features for Gen2 to fully replace Gen1.

I'm unable to follow these steps for my own dataset, and I think the issue might be with the access token. I think the token needs to be 'Public' in order to make the map work in Power BI, but I also need to add the 'tilesets:read' permission in the token scope, which has the effect of making the token 'Secret'. Bit of a catch-22. Has anyone had an issue with this?

I developed a "Sticky Note" solution like you described at 6:42 last year, and it was surprisingly simple. I created a Power App with a SharePoint List back-end, then I added that app to the Power BI report using the Power Apps visual. It was one of the fastest turnaround times I've ever achieved on a project -- I received the request one morning, had a working prototype that same afternoon, and the solution was fully tested and deployed to production before the end of the month. I'm planning a blog post with a tutorial on this technique, so stay tuned!

I think they key is that both aspects are just as important as each other. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in the data field may know the best ways to generate analysis, but SMEs in the specific business area know what analysis is actually required and how it will be used. Anybody who can cover both sides of the coin will be invaluable - but while citizen developers are still a rarity in reality, that mix of skillsets may be difficult to find.

So I am relatively new in Power Bi, and chose a completely different career path, but have somewhat found it useful to create simple reports for my work. Thank you for the engaging discussion visuals, I am in agreement that the uniqueness of the visuals is better than having pre-set styles like on excel tables as that limits creativity.

Is it true that page tooltips are not supported in PBIP files? In my report file, I created a custom page tooltip and applied it to a visual. However, after saving and reopening the file, the tooltip disappears.

@5:49 that overeager intellisense drives me insane (to brink of a murderous rage), as someone who likes to add a bit of space (hitting enter 3 or 4 times) before writing any code. Glad to hear a fix is coming. Don't get me wrong, I love intellisense, but when you prompt it by typing a character, not it just shoving ADDCOLUMNS down your throat every second without prompting!

Enjoyed the discussion on leadership. You might enjoy a podcast called The 90th Percentile: An Unconventional Leadership Podcast. Using over 1.5 million assessments from leaders worldwide, renowned psychometrician Dr. Joseph Folkman and leadership legend Dr. Jack Zenger are here to settle the debates and let the data speak for itself. Each week they analyze different leadership traits, trends, and what it really takes to get to the 90th percentile. These short episodes feature compelling stories, research, and actions that leaders can take to improve.

Do you think PowerBI can be manipulated in a way where one month is was reporting a certain percentage and the other month a different percentage? Let’s say in October it reported I was up 13%, but when I went to check again recently, it went down to 1%? And I’m filtering the same products and same month.

Quite common actually. I notice it a lot when I work with bookmarks (tabs, switches and so on), and when I would like to create an action on a button, that menu option is gone. do we have an option like , I link to lets say Folder1 of Git and commit al the files of Folder1 , but I create folder2 in Workspace inside Folder1 and add few files there, when I checkin the folder2 and it contents gets automattically synced rather than me changing the linking folder in Settings .
@PowerBITips

You get a one to one relationship to folders and workspaces. So each folder can be a different workspace. I don’t think nested folders work as you describe.

@avinashxxx123
@avinashxxx123 Ай бұрын
Yeah that has been a concern for us in using this , it is making us dump everything in a single place . separation of things , like notebooks, reports, pipelines into folders and folders for multiple different projects in same workspace is what can help. Otherwise it is difficult to dump everything into a single place.
@PowerBITips
@PowerBITips Ай бұрын
@@avinashxxx123 I don't this as a concern having all items in one pace isn't an issue. each item gets its own folder, I would not be worried about that.

No, Fabric Per User should cost the same as Premium Per User! PPU gives us the same capabilities as a P3, and P3 is being converted to F256, so PPU should be converted to FPU with no adjustment to the price.
@daryllynch998
@daryllynch998 2 ай бұрын
Hmm. More likely that a PPU user will have Power BI premium features plus a F2 for Fabric Features.
@JBartlett_DMU
@JBartlett_DMU Ай бұрын
@@daryllynch998 First of all, buying a separate F2 capacity on top of the existing PPU license would cost more, and my whole argument here is that PPU should be expanded to cover Fabric items without additional cost. But let's pretend that I accept your idea for a moment. F2 is nowhere near the same compute power as PPU, so merely picking up an F2 capacity on the side will never be an adequate alternative to Fabric Per User.
@PowerBITips

We all want the same for less. But I would argue we need some limits to bad actors abusing the unlimited levels of compute when we have the potential for bad data engineering practices.
