OMG, I finally found a recording of Giulia Barrera (and I have done a lot of searching). I saw her 2 years after this recording at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Aida (19 October 1963-still have the program) when she was just 22 years old. So it was her against Mignon Dunn who was 13 years older (so 22 vs 35). They made the performance - the competition between them was intense - Mignon Dunn had the poise and voice control befitting the daughter of the Pharoah (and she was singing at the MetOpera at the time) and Giulia Barrera with great intensity (and I have seen many amazing Aidas: (Price, Bumbry, Arroyo). The jealousy was electrifying. (I also distinctly remember Louis Sgarro as Amonasro, in the Nile scene, singing, "Non sei mia figlia! Dei Faraoni tu sei la schiava!". A great performance in a beautiful and acoustically magnificent opera house.

This is the recording from the Royal Opera House of the performance of 25 May 1953. You have the correct cast for this performance. All that is known to exist of the 25 January 1952 recording is 37 minutes of around Act 2, with Christel Goltz and Marco Rothmüller.

I completely agree, the tempo is too slow and makes the duet less bright and deprives it of a kind of “love urgency”

I attended the "American Institute of Musical Studies" (Aims) in Graz, Austria the Summer of 1979. Sherrill Milnes and Eleanor Steber were both there. I had three lessons with Steber and it was magical. So to see this recording, recorded in 1979, brings back the quality of singing that is hard pressed to hear today. What a blockbuster of a concert this must have been to attend.

The orchestra sounds wonderful, probably top freelancers from Manhattan. This must have been performed in Newark's wonderful old Symphony Hall, an ornate old theater that is hopefully still in use.
