A couple of the Bugattis have the famous piano-wire wheels. Does this suggest that they are de-bodied type 57s? They certainly go ‘like shit off a shovel’.
@PhilipSiddall11 күн бұрын
The Type 59 was the one with the piano wire wheels.

A great boon of a ‘crash’ gearbox on hill climbs is that first gear is just another gear to be accessed just like the others.
@davidbamford472127 күн бұрын
I find these cars far more interesting than the little ‘hill climb specials’.

I love the third camera, especially the last hairpin turn when the cars flick out the tail as they come towards the camera: Poetry in motion!

This is a fantastic restoration of a very special car. Obviously, more of a circuit car than a hill climb car but well done to the Tip Top team for giving it an airing.
@chrismontgomery1223Ай бұрын
Hi Jo, Jolyon will hill climb the car, but James Baxter can race it.
@joan4906Ай бұрын
@@chrismontgomery1223 Perhaps they will have the car at VSCC Loton Park next month. Sadly, we don't always get the best cars at Loton but if we get a couple of ERAs then I will be happy.
@joan4906Ай бұрын
Nice car! So is that the Mac Hulbert who used to own R4D?
Hi Jo, Yes. Mac owns the Alvis and it is for sale. I know Mac and the chap trying to sell the Alvis so this video is a way for people to see Mac driving the car. The footage is from 2021 filmed over 2 VSCC meetings at Prescott hence the change in car number. Chris

Fabulous work by James Baxter & Jack Bond (Tip Top Engineering) on this rare and historic vehicle.

287 you have the car now please invest in a driver.
@chrismontgomery1223Ай бұрын
Hi David. A little harsh. The car is in need of a 'run in and shake down' process. Considering the time and expense of bringing the car to this point it would be foolish to thrash the car up the hill. It takes time to get used to a 'new' car and the potential is there. This was the first outing since the rebuild and the driver took the car up the hill faster on each run. Chris
You're mistaken, the carburation isn't right, they'll sort it in due course. He had to baby it to ensure it didn't do something stupid like go too lean and melt a piston. Nothing to do with the driver's ability.

What a wonderful video!! love the enthusiasm and dedication of the younger generation too and best of all it's all done on a hill just outside Huddersfield, in the north!!.....Top work lads, keep it up....

Bellissimo!

......Is that Morgan even eligible...? It's registered as 1250cc and year 1936, but somehow doesn't seem quite right. Not having a pop at the owner/developer, just seeking info- interested as to what's under the bonnet for a start.

These cars were made in an era when it was expected that barring extraordinary good luck, you'd likely be maimed or killed engaging in such a gentlemanly sport.

Blimey! How are these 80 and 90 year old cars so rapid? Are they running original spec engines or are they enhanced with modern materials and methods?
@chrismontgomery1223Ай бұрын
Hi Teabag. The cars are pretty much as they were originally run (i.e. not enhanced) apart from a few modern tweeks to make them more reliable where appropriate. Chris
