I dunno how Geordi wasn't cracking up. lol LeVar must have had to retake the scene a few times.

SOMEBODY here knows where the best DataXLore is. And ain't NOBODY TALKING. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Boo. In all seriousness I adored Data from the beginning and watching him struggle with this was hard. AND. THUS. REWARDING. Back in MY day, whippersnappers, we had characters that EVOLVED. Now GTFO "my" lawn.

The Data-Picard relationship has always had a paternal-filial character which was also just a bit off-centre and that balance between father and captain, son and commander made the chemistry kind of mesmerising.

What a great mashup of the literary study of human emotion. This video is basically a wordless essay on a great theme of literature, with Star Trek being the classic extended novel under study.

I love how TNG looks like the Enterprise D as we grew up with, but in films the lighting gets so much better. Its actually distractingly different going from one to another.

Not better, different, darker, less practical.

Honestly, I didn't like the "emo" data. Much better without the emotion. And I say that mostly because Brent Spiner went on to do other movies where he was the "mad scientist" like Independence Day and I didn't like him in those either. Maybe Data should have just stayed an emotionless machine.
@timothygibney159 Жыл бұрын
It felt out of character and distracting

@borgxxxboy Data having emotions wasn't a bad thing. As with anyone who takes an emotion farther than it needs to be, that is irritating to most people. Emotions need to be balanced and we have to learn how to do that.
@sgshaday Жыл бұрын
I didn't like the idea of the emotion chip, as I always thought that Data had been built consciously to understand things from a logical manner and then have subroutines open up for him to feel these things. But eh, it works with Soong going 'You have 153 updates" XD That moment in stellar cartography was powerful, though as he felt he was a liability if he couldn't control his emotions and the crew needed him then and there. Pull yourself together, as humans do, and get the job done. There should have been more of those scenes.

I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it but I actually ended up loving it. Data is a character I relate to a lot, and as someone who feels emotions really intensely data’s arc of having to learn to deal with and manage powerful emotions for the first time ever made me relate to him even more.

I ALMOST CIRIED. I ALMOST CRIED. HEARING DATA'S LAUGH OF PURE AUTISTIC JOY WAS SO RESOUNDING TO ME. I FELT SO SEEN. FOR REAL THOUGH, WHOLLY POSITIVE EMOTION FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE AND EXPRESSIONS OF THEM ARE SO REPRESSED BECAUSE OF NEUROTYPICAL REACTION'S LIKE GEORDI'S BUT LIKE. HE KEPT LAUGHING ANYWAYS. HE ENJOYED IT AND HE LOVED IT AND HE WAS UNAPOLOGETICALLY JOYOUS AND HAPPY AND I'M ALMOST CRYING I LOVE HIM. I LOVE SEEING HIM SO HAPPY.

Imagine data who can process so many calculations, sensory inputs, and analysis routines per second. Now imagine having that usefulness drastically reduced because your emotions are now an input taking up processing resources while youre trying to do important things. He contemplates those emotions which feed back as input into the emotion chip which produces more emotional input. He feels what depressed and anxiety disordered people feel. It causes him great fear ehich causes him to doubt his usefulness and ability to go on. Data asked to be deactivated. He was asking someone to kill him essentially. Picard helped data through a suicidal episode and panic attack. That was all expertly played by these 2 great actors
@moralityisnotsubjective5 Жыл бұрын
I can say from experience that that depression and anxiety really sucks. It should also be noted that Spiner has mentioned in interviews that he has a fear of heights and being up on that scaffolding was scary. I'm sure he used that in the moment to draw from and express the necessary fear.

Brent Spiner is underestimated in his acting gift. He rally is brilliant. What fortune that Roddenberry got both Leonard Nimoy and Brent Spiner on his casts. Then had them meet and talk.
