There are some places in this documentary of plain distortion of the truth. The narrator's paraphrasing of Mead's conclusions are not accurate and sound like the typical muckraking you get from inferior commentators hellbent in creating sensationalism. When you're criticizing someone for warping the truth, don't do the same by warping the truth. At the 9:00 mark - I know the passage of Mead's work that the narrator is referring to - the meaning of that passage is not what the narrator presented it as. I grant that Mead's choice of words in that passage could have been better - perhaps her vocabulary wasn't up to the mark. Or maybe Mead needed to spend another paragraph or two to round off the thought she was making. It is the passage that describes the Samoan people as lacking deep feeling which pervades their general attitude. I see what she was trying to convey - but perhaps it needed more explaining. For the passage lent itself to this muckraking schmuck to bend and distort in order to misrepresent Mead and her work. How can I believe a documentary when there is clear sensationalism?
