Update: The truck has started every time I've used it, since the long beep which originally got it going again. The PATS light now flashes 5 times after turn off. This has never happened since I owned the truck. So, this is a computer issue obviously. So if you are experiencing this problem, try starting the truck up to 15 times or until you hear that audible, and crank it as soon as you hear it, and maybe you'll get lucky as I did.

According to my list 42 is Ignition bypass circuit error. Ignition Control Module is 41 and truthfully in all my GM years those things either work or your car will die/not start. What you did here could have solved the problem but since it did not, it is either a connection between the ecm and the distributor or the ecm itself, God forbid. I'd disconnect and clean every distributor and ecm connector, reconnect the battery and go for it. Hope it helps. Also you do truly need at least a cap and rotor. They were worn.
@1984C4Corvette_DIY_Garage4 ай бұрын
Thanks kindly for the info. I've since replaced the cap, rotor, and points, condenser, along with a new coil. Haven't had any time to drive it this year but I'm hoping to soon and see if I can get it figured. The ICM was a long shot thats for sure. Hoping it's not the ECM. I'll probably just keep driving it. It idles rough sometimes, but other than that, it runs like a top. Crazy. Thanks again!

I was driving 50-70 then hit city traffic on the way home. Stopped and parked to get food and then when I turned her back on the ac blew hot air and temps went all the way up. I didn’t see any coolant leaks. Nothing from the engine… ac wasn’t working. Temp skyrocketed to 265. I let my 84 vette sit and this morning I saw oil level was super low and coolant reservoir was a little. Light like shake like for the oil and same for the coolant in the radiator. I put new fluids in and she ran ok until I idled at a light or parked and then she blazed back up past 240 and ac wasn’t working. Idk what is going on it all happened at random yesterday and today. I know oil needs to be changed and a coolant flush is needed

Hi there I was wondering I got a new distributor for my 1984 corvette and I cannot find where the tach plugs into. I have the wire and can plug it into the distributor, but I don't know where to put it in the harness I took my car apart months ago and forgot where it goes. the wire I have has a brown head on it goes down into a solenoid. with a single brown wire coming out of that. I remember it was ground to the intake manifold from the solenoid. but can't find the direct plug into the harness of the car.

There will be no performance increase. Been there, done that. Ram air's only benefit is to supply cooler air, but the original system already pulled cold air into the intake, and you'd have to be going several hundred MPH to have any appreciable pressure increase.
@basketballjones6782 Жыл бұрын
Best wishes, brother! I had an '84 from around 1999-2012. As I later found out, it's the worst year for a Corvette in it's entire manufacturing history. At least it was a Z51 model, so it handled like it was on rails, but could feel every grain of sand I ran over. I had eventually put a X-ram on it (doubt you can still get them) and hacked enough of the ECM to know where the fuel tables and some of the digital dash coefficients were located. Probably still some old articles I wrote or contributed on the Crossfire Injection Forum, ran by IIRC, a man named Ken. I hope it's still out there. Do yourself a favor... unless it has some sentimental value, sell that thing and get a non crossfire injection model - or at least a C4 with an LT1 in it.
@1984C4Corvette_DIY_Garage Жыл бұрын
To each their own. I love everything about the 84, including the fuel delivery system. Honestly, I could go out today and get something much much newer, but I've got my time, and love invested in this beauty, and I'm sticking with it all the way to the finish line. Good luck with all repairs, hope you clear that annoying 42!! Are you changing the whole distributor unit or just cap, rotor and ignition coil? I was scared to tackle the whole distributor, as i didn’t want to mess with timing. But changing cap, rotor, ignition coil, plug wires and plugs really awoke the car up. With regards to AC removal (if I understood correctly) you wouldn’t necessarily need the new pulley, you can just remove the whole thing all together and re-rout the belt like i did.

Sorry to see your still having the same trouble code.Check your base timing, Plug disconected at dist.Then recheck with plug conected at dist. The timing should advance if it dosen't your ECM is not getting the signal from the dist. That would mean follow all the wiring From the dist to the ECM.you need to do a external check for bad, melted , broken wiring. If that's ok check with a test light To check the wiring under load.Good luck electric wiring problems can be a real SOB sometimes.
