That coin has a greater gold content due to the sets of weights used by that company. One set used to buy gold and the other to sell. There was a trial but it was dismissed after the treasury coin measured lighter than Grubers.

I clean coins all the time and sell them. The collectors who buy them are super happy because they got a good condition coin. As long as the coin is not scrathed up nobody knows. It just looks like a coin in good condition. Many of the coins you bought probably was cleaned without you ever even knowing it 😆

It looks awful in that slab. That's like displaying a faberge egg in a Tupperware container. Oh, and then of course the CAC sticker. You can't have enough branding on your 1794 specimen dollar. As if it even means anything. CAC would sticker it no matter what. It's too big of an advertisement opportunity to not approve it. You want to build that brand recognition on big money coins. I hope whoever buys it takes it out, puts it in something a bit more dignified.

Great seminar. I’ve caught vendors selling fake CC Morgan’s and fake 1916-D Mercs - both in bogus PCGS slabs - at flea markets in my area. Anyone buying coins at these venues needs to be extremely knowledgeable and prepared to detect counterfeits. CAVEAT EMPTOR.

I'm not sure why they were in such a hurry to replace the Indian Head nickel: they could have waited until 1943, the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birth.

What's the difference between a Native American artifact, and say for example, a Navajo blanket or pair of Moccasins made by modern tribe members for sale.
@MoneyOrgАй бұрын

If it's 'Country of Origin' then they need to go by the country maps during the time the object was purportedly produced.

I have a big question, I have in my possession a civil war token with ( United States copper) Struck on the reverse that was struck over a 1863 Indian head penny graded MS 63... How did this come to exist if the copper - nickel cents were hoarded and why would this be made into a civil war token from a 1863 cent when this coin was already in hand???
@MoneyOrgАй бұрын
Thanks for your question! While there are other examples of overstruck civil war tokens, it wasn't the norm. Tokens were substitutes for unavailable small change. The cent would be worth more than a token. Illegal as of April 22, 1864, tokens were a short, but vibrant numismatic moment in American history. Unfortunately, without a photo, we cannot definitively explain why this token was made with a cent.
@erikbrantner4295Ай бұрын
@@MoneyOrg thanks, Perhaps the cent was made into a token for collectors purposes.. This coin is in uncirculated condition.. That all the info I have on this...

Funny thing about 'Key Dates' is that there are more graded Key date silver coins available than as compared to available graded common date coins. I think someday in the future, the 'Key Date' coins will be the only available and common dates will not be seen.

Loved this lecture! This is arguably America's most famous symbol yet we have forgotten about it. I hope we can soon resurrect this symbol for our contemporary coinage.
