My water heater only worked for 2 days! I called rheem and told them the model they know whats wrong. So it is a common problem and I wont get another rheem ever again. They offer $175 to find your tech since there are no tech service in my area. I cant find Anyone with $175 here! They know they have defective product and just give customers headaches! Terrible!

Sometimes I think these videos are full of CRAP. Why test this valve once a year, to get damage and have to replace or call a stupid professional stealer plumber? This Valve no need to touch stupid. Mine goes outside from the garage wall, so I can't see it.

and this is done by a called: Professional? you put the Teflon tape wrong. Now when you turn the Anode rod will be destroyed.

Why you made a video to teach people how to do this simple stupid maintenance and then tell us to call a licensed professional installer? to rip off us? to steal our money?

why am i being told to replace this part myself? The warranty includes parts and labor, but I'm getting the runaround from Rheem and the installer, and the part is nowhere to be found, due to the frequency of its failure. Regret buying a Rheem water heater, only 7 months ago. This is not a safely replaceable part for the customer, with no electrical or plumbing training to do themselves.

Will the lower element run at 120v when the top element is operating at 240v. From this diagram I see when wired for 277v the elements operate simultaneously

Worst IoT device to connect. Working on a smart home right now, build computers regularly, can't get this stupid water heater to connect. Was the worst the first time i tried to connect it a year ago. Made the mistake of changing my wifi password and now my water heater won't connect what a joke. its 2024, if you are going to make dumb stuff IoT, at least make it not suck

We just bought our first home about 10 months ago and it came with the Pro Tera Unit like the one in your video. The unit is about four years old at present. I have to say though that the "Econet App" is NOT very reliable at all. Half the time it won't even connect to the unit or see our WIFI network. We even bought a WIFI "booster" and it's still having constant problems connecting (or staying connected) to it. I checked the settings and our WIFI signal is very strong but right now, the APP is not working at all. And, the last time I checked it, the APP said that my water heater tank was EMPTY! It's never said that before! I think the hot water heater is fine because I ran hot water through my kitchen tap and we have hot water, as normal but I think it's really bad that Rheem designed this thing so that you can't check that status manually on the unit itself but only through the APP. There is no where on the unit itself that you can manually verify that data. Right now we have it set in Electric mode. I just hope that it does have hot water in the tank because I don't want to burn out either of the upper or lower heating elements. You guys REALLY need to do a SERIOS UPDATE on the APP!

When you reassemble the connections to the gas valve, use soapy water to confirm there are no gas leaks. I had a small gas leak where the pilot gas supply connects to the gas valve. The golden nut and tube ( pilot gas supply) must be properly inserted and tightened.

Video was not helpful at all. You spent most of it talking about the requirements but little about where the ducts go, postive/negative air pressure. Rooms that are smaller that 700 but don't have a spot where the water heater is 12 away from the louvered door, etc.

FWIW be aware these do not come out easy. Think hard before trying this. If it takes a 24 inch breaker bar.. and it likely will - your tank and the pipes attached are going to spin too. Even with 300 pounds of water in it... Can use a racketing tie down strap to try an hold it in place. Good luck. Suggest use a 6 point socket and a big impact wrench. My air impact wrench rated @ 1500 foot pounds would not budge it on a 5 year old Rheem. Had to heat around head it with torch to get to move. Your results may vary.

I have heard that you should simply unplug the unit vs powering it off. Apparently, powering it off will close an internal valve, there-by you will not fully flush some of the internals? Some others argue that you should only turn off the gas, and then this tricks the system into thinking that the flow switch it tripped, and the internal valve(s) remains open. Some who use chemicals instead of vinegar, leave the system to heat the flush chemicals, thus improving their effectiveness. I personally would NOT do this, as the heating would be unfettered, and you could blow something up or overheat the system or the circulation pump has a temperature range maximum. I have relatively hard water, and do this every 6 months. I just unplug the unit and follow the methods above. Works well.

Wish there was a place on your website we could pop in the model/serial and show compatible parts. If it's there it's very hard to find.

I have this and love it. Just don’t put it next to a sleeping area as it does hum a bit. However you can schedule it so it does run during sleeping hours if it is close to bedrooms. Love ours

You should also write on the water heater with a Sharpie the date you replaced the anode rod, so in the future you can decide if it needs to be replaced again.

I just purchased a Richmond water heater and it is junk, once installed it would not light so Rheems sent me a repair kit for the ignitor and thermo coupler after replacing it the water heater still doesn't work, now they are sending me another part to replace, I can't return it until all the parts able to be replaced are replaced, don't buy Richmond water heaters

I have a 40-gallon tank. Should there be a wire of something of that nature right next to it? Also I have 2 caps small on back and a little bigger on the front. How do I know which one is the one?

I thought I would add my experience replacing my anode. I had my water heater replaced about 3 months ago. In my area the water stinks. So I wanted to replace it with an anode to combat that. I bought a powered anode. I had about 3 inches of foam above my old anode. I used a 1 and 1/16 inch socket to remove the anode. It wouldn't move with a regular ratchet so I used a breaker bar. Took a little effort but it came loose and I pulled it out. I thought I had enough room between the water heater and the ceiling, but it turns out I didn't. I took out a hacksaw cut it in half. Be sure to hold the bottom half or it will just fall right back into the tank as you cut through it. The instructions for the new anode required a 31 mm socket, however the new anode stuck up over the top of the water heater and I was able to use a crescent wrench to tighten it up. Took me less than 30 minutes to do. Overall way easier than I imagined after reading all the comments.

About 6 or 7 years ago I turned on one of the hot water taps in my house and SCALDING hot water came out. I have the thermostat set to 130 degrees, so I knew something was wrong. Just to be safe I replaced both heating elements and thermostats. The heating elements were fused across with lime buildup etc (we have a high mineral content in our area). I don't know if that's what caused the problem, but after replacement there have been no more issues with scalding hot water. (The pressure release valve worked also). I'm replacing them again tomorrow as a preventative measure.

My whirlpool water makes hot water, but it intermittently trips the upper thermostat. The water temp-though set to 120°-gets so hot it will burn your skin. It's not regulated. Isn't that a reason to replace the thermostat?
@JustWasted3HoursHere
@JustWasted3HoursHere 2 ай бұрын
I would. 120 degrees should not be enough to burn your skin. You can get an entire kit with both heating elements and two thermostats for an electric hot water heater for less than $50 online.
