I know this is an old vid, but its brilliant. of the hundreds of log press vid on youtube, you'd the first one to mount it direct to the ram verses the carrier arms.

I don’t tend to love the scandi grind, but you pulls it off well. I would love to see a flat grind in the future!

Can you heat treat a store knife into and improve its quality.
@Exmoorblades3 ай бұрын
Not really, All depends on the quality of the steel at the start and of course the heat treat itself

gave up on regritting the mdf wheel, made an 8" plywood wheel, glued on 240 grit emery sandpaper, lasting over 50 sharpening and still going without any signs of failing!!!!

Many people don't realize how sharp an edge you can get on these if you hammer and work harden the edge before honing it. Do a quick google search for bronze age razors. You will find that there are actually quite a few of them. I don't know that I would want to shave with one. I imagine it being as much scraping as actually shaving, but either way, it puts an end to the idea that bronze tools are inferior. I have actually thought of making one just for the fun of trying it out.

Its all relative... I actually really like my Dartmoor knife, had it about 20 years and used it well. The original grind was horrid but thats long since been reprofiled and the survival kit in the handle is a pathetic gimmick and a complete 80s throwback. Nevertherless i really get on with the blade geometry and size. I just like the feel of it and find it easy to use. If i could replace the fairly poor stainless steel with high carbon, full tang and not hollow handle then i would... otherwise i really like it.

It is not micarta. Micarta is a trade name for linnen based material and impregnated with phenolic resin. People often name ir wrong.

Hey Mr. Exmoor!! Your knives are ALL very unique and beautiful!! I'm not really a knife maker but I must tru to be as my youngest son needs a custom handle on a blade we had laying around... it's going to be a special present for his father's birthday in a few weeks! I was thinking about doing some kind of wooden and epoxy handle, but I honestly don't know how to stabilize wood, do not own a pressure pot, and probably have fairly cheaper epoxy resin and mediocre wood to choose from.... I also have not much experience with resin and I haven't actually figured out quite how to get it all just right so ANY ADVICE OR TIPS u may have for me on this special project would be so greatly appreciated and we would consider ourselves ever so blessed to have the advice or knowledge come from a man of such beautiful knife making!!! Last thing: keep up the awesome work and we like watching your videos!!! 👍🤘👏👏

If you just switch the leads after you have etched to the positive on the cotton buds it will black the etching really nicely that’s what I do 👍

Tip if ya have scrap stainless sheet(not foil), tubing, etc for use as a can, check it with a magnet make sure enough nickle content the magnet doesn't stick, then you know that it is good stainless.

I bought one of these knives many many years ago. From what I understand was its first run. I have No.69 of 500, stamped on the blade somehow. Unfortunately I don't have the box but I do have all the other original bits that came with it. Found in in my attic recently then found your video.
