God give Clay and Blair their props to help Julian like that. Detox from what I've seen is so hard. Another person who was good showing the challenges of Detox was Simone Lahbib a Scottish/Lebanese Actress. She had a small part and she showed the anguish a person has when an addict.

Fighting through dilaudid withdrawal after surgery.. The nausea, paranoia, restlessness… This strikes a chord. His performance in this film is heartbreaking. This is a movie I can see over and over and it’ll still hit just as hard as the first time. Please wish me luck for the next few days

Interesting to note that rdj wasn’t necessarily acting the withdrawals. He was already hooked on that shit before filming started and purposely went without to make his character more believable. Imma recovering heroin addict myself and know what it was like for me when I quit cold turkey. The fact he did this to sell his character is beyond comprehension

Back in the 90's, I swear everyone thought that he was going to die. This movie was incredibly good and so sad. I've watched it several times and Robert never fails to put me through an emotional rollercoaster.

Withdrawal is absolute hell. But having a beautiful Jami Gertz nursing you back to health certainly takes away the sting a bit lol.

Fantastic video and i like that you did a straightforward story about PSH , and kept it honest but also respectful! Rarely am i touched by celebrity tragedy, but Hoffmann's death bothered me for 2 reasons, one bc i was an active heroin addict, snd two bc the way he was , as a human being was like having a mirror held up to myself and seeing the isolation..the loneliness feels like it was me! Also to close, people need to STOP telling people get off the methadone or other medicines that are helping them stay from putting a needle in the their arms or neck! You are NOT doctors, counselors or medical professionals, you can get someone killed doing that! To literally tell a person " THATS NOT CLEAN, is reprehensible! This isn't 1924 and you're not BILL WILSON, DR.BOB so stop doing that!

Dick Gregory, Civil Rights Leader, Comedian, tried to help Marvin Gaye by going cold turkey. He didnt show up at dick's house, he got very angry and washed his hands of marvin. A couple of days later, he died one day before his 45th birthday in 1984.

I remember watching this Sophomore year of hs Spring of 1988. Season 4 compared to 1 went a really dark turn. It was a fun plot line to follow. Ironically Miami Vice would open the door to another franchise, GTA. Hopefully GTA VI which takes place in Vice City AKA Miami, I am hoping they have a side game that is tribute to this show. Good show all around 1984-89.

Have alwasy loved this movie. What is confusing to me is thiught thay julian was on crack but they portray him having opiod withdrawal (very accurately i may add). Crack will have you mentally sick when coming off but not ohysical.

It was his main drug of choice but with addicts sometimes they’ll do just about anything. In particular between those times where they don’t have their drug of choice. He was probably drinking and popping pills too.
