When GTA III was released, my pc was to weak to handle the game. Luckily there was a very cool internet cafe in our city, that had games like GTA III or Counter-Strike 1.6 pre-installed. The price was 3,50€ p.h. and after the session all saved data got deleted, forcing me to start with the first mission again, when i logged in the next time. I became tired of the first missions over and over again, so i started simply to walk around and take in the the games athmosphere. I knew big cities only from movies and exploring freely the open world of Liberty City was something very special to me. Our City was quite small, but there where a few streets in the centre that had a bit of the same big city vibe. The Internet Cafe was located there, too. Many of friends went there, too, to play CS. It was a very modern building, with a winter garden entrance. Techno Music was blasting through speakers, the owner offered snacks like overbacked baguettes and a giant rear projection tv showed football matches, skater videos and mtv shows like pimp my ride or jackass. It was Autumn 2001, and mostly dark outside already when i went there. Like Liberty City, our city was also wet, grey and dark and the trees lost their leafes. I often sat there cruising around, listening to Rise and MSX FM. But every time this track came, i just had to stop the car and listen to it, doing nothing ingame anymore. I stared out of the windows on the streets, with warm lights coming from store windows, reflecting on the wet street surface. On my way home i often bought some noodles from an asian restaurant, that was tiny, a bit disgusting and unhygienic and exactly how i would expect Punk Noodles restaurant to be. I always tried to imagine being in Liberty City, and exiting metropole and not that boring as my city. Time has past, but this track always stayed with me and i will never get enough of it. Every time i listen to it, i get that dopamine rush, like i had as an exited teenager that was hyped up to play GTA III for the first time and remember me sitting there in that internet cafe, eating a tasty baguette, all my schoolmates around and listen to this track, while dreaming of a big city life. These moments are some of my most valuable memories from my youth, and First Contact is the soundtrack for them.

Never played GTA 3 sadly, but this track just sounds timeless asf. If I wasn’t the dnb head that I am and I heard this without any sort of context I would’ve thought this was a recent release haha..
