Great exit for a musical genius. I attended this show.

I saw them on this tour in SF. I dropped to many shrooms. I almost had to leave before the opening act. As soon as they took the stage the music saved me. Ive never seen such a powerful statement as these guys. It's changed my ever day to day life

his soloing feels much more... I dunno, restrained and jazzier than it did years ago. he sounds like miles in a couple of these videos from this tour

That solo has been evolving for the last 19 years! I saw them for the first time back in July 2003 and that King Crimson Sailor's Tale homage part of Cygnus originally started out as an improv section in Drunkship of Lanterns! That show is in my Top Five favorite concerts of the hundreds I have been too! They did a highly improvised version of Deloused in its entirety and when Drunkship segued into an early version of this jam, I was like "WTF? Why isn't this on the record?" I saw them again later that October and that jam had quickly metamorphosed into an arrangement pretty close to the album version of Cygnus! I saw them again in 2005 and when they did Cygnus, I was kinda stunned that had evolved even further from what I thought was the "perfected" version that was on the album! It's prolly my second favorite live piece after Veil (well at least most live versions of it). The 2005 version is cool, but the bass solo and psychedelic improv jams really make the song spectacular!!! I always thought they should have done a hybrid version with the 2005 "helicopter" part tucked in between the Fripp like guitar solo and the bass solo! The cool thing about Cygnus and pre 2005 Veil is that the live versions are drastically different night to night. I've been trying to find a recording of the 2003 Chicago version of Veil (or more specifically the bass solo and following jam) for the last 20 years!!!! I was there and it was such a cool version and noticeably different from the Detroit and Toronto shows nights before! The versions from Electric Ballroom and Boston have some of the same characteristics, but they are also pretty different. The bass solo was fairly short compared to some versions. It was super tight and then basically concluded with essentially flea's riff that appears on the album or pretty close to it. Then there was this really cool jam in the psychedelic part that I can't really compare to any other live versions I've heard. Digressing though. It's pretty cool to have seen this piece of music evolve over the last 19 years!
