Is it more advantageous to order several or dozens of different parts as a single order or spread out over a few orders? Any difference in pricing for larger orders? Designing some flat parts I'll weld together afterwards for custom automotive applications like trailing arms for example

When designing a part like the trapezoid box you used as reference… are there specific punch widths I should have in mind when designing? Or do you have an infinite number of punch widths and consideration during DFM is unnecessary?

You guys have sponsored me in the past. Awesome company that has been a game changer in copper Head gaskets we use in racing. $36 for 4 from you when several places wanted $30 a gasket. Like you said I sold the spares. Another hint: cheap $150 laser cutter on Amazon cuts very close to your setup using carb board box and cereal boxes. Making free test pieces till you can order the real one.

for the prototyping materials, If someone wants a part out of the expensive stuff (like carbon fiber) you should offer them a free prototype run. or be able to apply some of the cost of a prototype material as a discount to a more upscale material. may be a great way to get people to use your more expensive materials.

I can't imagine how awesome it would be to go to college doing engineering now with 3d printers being inexpensive and online services that will crank out custom parts. I remember someone talking about something being 3D printed in 2001-ish timeframe while in college and didn't really understand what they were talking about. Like "what do you mean 3D printed?" They couldn't explain to me that it was plastic applied layer by layer to make a shape and I was stuck in the mindset of laser printers for 8.5"x11" paper since I worked in a computer support center on campus. I can only imagine how much the thing they were talking about cost to make and what quality it was.

I grew up in an age where we had to make everything from everything else... Bullet proof disc break 9inch rearend fron a 74 Grenada, Mustang][ Rack and Pinion from a Mustang 2... 1970s TransAm Front Subframe and suspension shoved under a 55 Ford Stepside.. Modifying the parts, Making all the bracketry to mount it all, doing all the geometry to make it perform properly, etc etc etc... Now you can buy all the parts and bolt it together.. CNC has taken Hot Rodding to a Whole New Level... I Love the Adventure and Journey and all the Hours standing around a popped hood in a park8ng lot making new friends and learning new things... I guess she thought I would just set it down... Evidently they put pain killers in Lollypops now ? I definitely had a kick in my step and perma grin for a bit so I believe there was more to that lolly pop or maybe It was my subconscious and she just had me believing it was drugged.. I should have kept it... Don't eat lollypops from Ambulances...

It would be really helpful to make a way to add a key to a washer. Key washers come in lots of sizes and none are available as standard hardware. The only way to get one for any size is to make them. Key washers are on lots of things, my interest is bicycles, and every one has a key washer somewhere on it.

A traditional break can do tapered parts if the holddowns clamp the tapered portion.
@sendcutsend22 күн бұрын
True! Unfortunately, clamping doesn't equal speed. Since we'll often be making a quantity of 1 part (that we'll never see again), creating a fixture for the clamp can take more time, not to mention cost. For higher volumes, it makes a lot of sense and will pencil out.

When do you bent it like this and when do you edge bend?
@STUDlO30523 күн бұрын
Thanks guys! Definitely am no stranger to the awesome and helpful team at SCS especially when it comes to bends and getting things figured out. My question, I've had parts bent before, and on a later placed order (of the same parts), I was instructed to make revisions - I did notice that the orders came from different locations - do different locations have varying tooling/machines?
@sendcutsend22 күн бұрын
Could be a lot of things, it's hard to say without seeing your file. All of our locations have the same machines/tooling, but as we grow we are often making adjustments to maximize our capabilities and production. You're always welcome to ask the support team what's changed.
