Want to know why you were struggling at 0:15? You forgot to unscrew the fifth screw on the clamshell. It is hidden under the third rubber plug between the CE and Z494 logos, and it is longer than the other four. That said, you probably broke the case when pulling it apart.

HOW TO FIX THE POWER SWITCH WITHOUT REPLACING IT. you can use W-40 oil with that little ‘straw’ that comes with the spray. then you move the switch to the lock position, insert the little red straw that comes with the W40 spray bottle in the nozzle, then, spray into the smal whole carefully not to damage the switch. Then, you move the switch to the ‘on’ position, and spray oil again, on the other side of the switch. next, you slowly slide the swtich on and off , then you can test it, it will work. At least, mine did.

Clearly I don't have your soldering skill. Seems successful secured into place, then I reassemble the Zoom, and the new switch falls out somewhere in the process. Maddening. I think I'm in for a new recorder, or remedial soldering lessons.

Hi, is this switch suitable also for H2N?

I mean, H2N's has 3 positions: one for "hold" function, the middle one in witch is normally positioned and the third position for a "momentary" switch to turn ON the device. The switch that you indicate is ON - ON - (ON) (tech sheet found on google). Is this correct? Is suitable for my H2N? Thank you very much

Good video. I'm about to perform surgery on the same model for the same problem. Other than the replacement switch, how difficult do you think it would be to hack in a much chunkier switch? I would like something solid. I was thinking even of two toggle switches working in concert.

I would probably just use the same switch, it worked for years before the switch broke, not really worth trying trying to hack in a larger switch. It wouldn't be too difficult but tough to make it look nice.

Hey Iron Fur! quick question for you, in a place that labour cost is almost prohibitive, would you perform a quick repair like the one you did on your ZOOM H4N? I'm in Canada and my zoom H1 power switch got broken all of the sudden. I don't see much sense on paying almost $100 in labour to fix a device that retails for $100. What are your thoughts in this scenario?

My h6 freezes most time when I try to put it on.and the LCD displace white screen or will I say a blank screen .any idea what could be the problem

Did you used some flux for the solder to do not melt the plastic of the card? I find a h4n who as the same problem for 40 box, but i am nervious to repair it, i've already made solder pour i am nervious to fail xd. Can you advice me? Thanks for your answer ^^

Didn't use flux, just cleaned the board well with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. The solder I used is Hydro-X so after I soldered the switch I scrubbed it with a wet toothbrush.
