Just what I needed. So, what's the harder way to pull the wire out of the back? I don't think I have enough wire to work with if I cut it. Awesome video, regardless.
@ColtonCrumpDIY6 күн бұрын
Yeah if you keep trimming might run out of wire and then you get into code violations. But there is also a release push in tab on the back of switches if the wire is inserted through the push in slot. You can grab a precision flat head screw driver, push on that tab then pull the wire out.
@LordHollow6 күн бұрын
@ColtonCrumpDIY ha! I'll look for that tab and keep you posted. Thank you!

Sometimes they can be a pain to remove. I'd suggest some lineman pliers also so you have a good grasp on it. You will probably encounter needing some twisting of the wire to get it out also. Best of luck!!

Is it better to do just the glazing or the whole frame?
@ColtonCrumpDIY9 күн бұрын
Great question. I prefer to do it in the actual frame of the window. The reason for this is this plastic insulation works best when there is a gap between your window and the glass itself. Think of it as if you already have a double paned window and how the panes have a gap, this is a third pane.

any reason you didn't use rigid foam opposed to fiberglass? vapor barrier needed with basement?
@ColtonCrumpDIY10 күн бұрын
Really came down to what was already there and cost. If it was just bare cement walls without the already installed moisture barrier, I probably would have gone rigid foam. I was also tied to a budget for this entire basement and rigid foam would have set me well over where I wanted to be, whereas fiberglass met my cost goals. Great question though!

The issue I'm having with this installation method (if not the kit as a whole) is that I'm expecting to have to open the window at some point and this makes the window unusable without tearing the insulation kit down. I'm guessing that it's possible to put the film right over each moving window frame/piece but its insulation quality might suffer as a result. Still, a very helpful video. Thank you.
@ColtonCrumpDIY17 күн бұрын
100% it's like once you use this product for additional insulation, that window's purpose just became a natural light piece of your house rather than a functional piece of fresh air. I think it there was a way where you could utilize the window's light + have it insulate more + have the window still be movable. That's a win

Still confused, why didn't you center them? How would they hit each other??
@ColtonCrumpDIY24 күн бұрын
If I centered them on both sides of the door perfectly, same measurements, the holes in the same placement as the other side, the screws would hit each other because of the length of the screw and the thickness of the door. For example if I have a 2 inch think door, and 4 screws that are an inch and a half, if I drill in 2 screws on one side, that leaves me half an inch of wood before that screw goes all the way through to the other side. So if I took those exact same measurements and centered the holes to be the same, If I took the other inch and a half length screw, I'd only get half an inch in before hitting that screw from the other side.

What about the weight and vibration? Like another poster said, I'd make sure it's structurally sound (The bracket) before putting a heavy fan on it. The original builders may have half a**ed it and dry wall screwed the box LOL

You probably have the Nest E. So I personally have never installed a Nest E, but knowing that their connections are a less in number, I would suggest you use Google's Nest Compatibility Checker before trying to install it. You will want to make sure you know your HVAC system you're working with connects to your specific Nest device you're getting to install. 1st Gen Nest had 8 connections. Now 3rd gen has 10. The Nest E has 6

so how does this work if you are using it to clean and there is water around. An underwater driver cost $2k and its for 50M of water which is over kill. I don't believe impact drivers are meant to be used around water. I am just curious, I fear ruining my Kobalt driver using this product around water. Thanks for the great review.
@ColtonCrumpDIY27 күн бұрын
It's a good question. I would just try to make sure your drill/driver isn't covered in water, submerged, or have water directly pouring or hitting it. I've used this a number of times around water and haven't had a problem with my makita and it's functionality. I guess in theory also.... you could get like a gallon plastic bag, put your drill/driver in there, cut a hole for the bit and use that?

If i recall correctly it fully cures in 1 hour. Ultimately it depends on what kind of epoxy you are using. Some recommend a full 24 hours. But I'm 99% sure the clear weld i used here is after 1 hour

Couldn't you keep the knobs centered on both sides, but one side the holes are rotated 90 degrees?
@ColtonCrumpDIYАй бұрын
For sure. That is another way. I just don't like how the 90 degrees looks when I'm expecting both knobs to have the look of the screw holes on the left and right horizontal axis. The off center slightly is barely noticeable especially on the less trafficked side.

is it ok to leave the hoses that long? Would they operate better if you shorten them?
@ColtonCrumpDIYАй бұрын
You can shorten them but you need them to be as long as you need in order to take the dishwasher out. If you have access to the back of the dishwasher when it's fully installed and can shorten it, then go for it. But anyone else that needs to roll out the dishwasher needs to be long enough to do so.

I've watched several of these and they all seem similar. Unplug the microwave, remove the top screws and the microwave should come out. I have an older Kenmove (1990 vintage) that died and I went to replace it today. It looks like all of these in the videos. There are two top screws, score. Removed them but the microwave is solidly held in position and I mean solid, no wiggle, no sliding at all. Checked the cupboards on each side for any additional screws, no. On one side there is an enough of a gap between the microwave and the cabinet to run a straight edge up and down, no other bolts seem to be there. Removed the bottom frame piece holding the lights to see if there are any bolts, nothing. Suggestions on what to look at next?

did you have a problem with the paint seeping into the edges between the boards since you painted it on after installation?
@ColtonCrumpDIYАй бұрын
We actually wanted the gap between the boards to be painted to complete the look of a consistent color for the entire wall. Shiplap is tricky in that way where you need to be able to get into all of the cracks and crevices.

You mention the difference in thickness of your boards. That’s the trouble I ran into. The vertical boards are slightly thicker than my horizontal boards. I used same boards you used for horizontal baseboard and top board. For vertical boards I used door and window casing bc I already had some. I wasn’t sure how to resolve the difference bc all are nailed to the wall. Considered sanding at an angle, but worry each one will look different. You used mud rather than wood putty? Would you do it the same way or differently another time? Looks great!
@ColtonCrumpDIYАй бұрын
Yeah this is where it gets tricky and it's all dependant on the look you want to go for and what is currently installed in your home + cost. The standard thickness of baseboard, at least in the states is USUALLY 9/16 or ⅝ in. So you did essentially what I did. I had some extra door and window packs around the house, decided I could use those up, then buy a few more to complete the look. To your point, they are thicker than the baseboards installed so I took drywall mud, and created a ramp looking thing that blended the baseboards together and it turned out really nice. The problem is... after it dries months later... it can crack and then you see it and it looks funny anyways. The window and door trim was the MDF skinny width look that i wake because anything I found at home depot or lowes, the "thinner than my current baseboard" trim was too wide and i didn't like it and I didn't want to go the wood route. It's a long winded answer but here's what I would do if I were to do it again. If I was hellbent on the look of the window and door trim width, I would get them but then reinstall baseboards that were thicker. It's a better look, more complete, and not any jenky workarounds. Especially with such a small room like this, it would have been worth it. If I just wanted a complete look and didn't want to screw with the baseboards, I'd just find any mdf trim that the thickness is thinner and deal with the width look.
