1:48 that right there is what ruined bushwick. Got these transplants coming here because of “affordability.” They in turn are getting hustled by the agent to pay way more than what they should. So then people caught on and instead of 1200 a railroad apt turned into 1800 cause transplants love roommates it don’t hurt cause 3 are paying 600 a month so they raise it more to 2300 a month and the people in the are from that hood suffer cause stores start selling monsters that are 2.50 for 3.99 or 4.50 charging 16.00-17.00 for a pack of cigs. Gouging happening because these transplants are used to paying city prices so this is “affordable” for them. So people that are from there being to suffer cause everything is expensive.

Why is it that very few listings on StreetEasy include square footage information? The stills are definitely intended to make the apt. look more attractive than it is, but isn't that going to result in an unnecessary waste of time for the agent to show the apartment that has been "misrepresented" in the pictures? I find that a simple floor plan gives so much information to weed out a number of apartments that one ends up spending so much time on. Given that the city must have a record of the floor plan, why isn't it made available?

StreetEasy is helpful, but I wish you had a filter based on the number of flights of stairs! Can you add that in the near future?

Renting and owning is nearly impossible for most. It's upsetting that NYC teachers can barely afford the outer boroughs.

Is it better to use an agent to find apartments ? Also can you explain brokers fees? I live in CT and our leasing system doesn't have those. Thank you .

Hi @tebec3624! Here's our video about whether you should use a buyer's agent: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWTEopKId7R5fc0 And here's a guide to rental fees (incl. broker fees) on our blog: streeteasy.com/blog/what-are-nyc-rental-fees-everything-you-need-to-know/ - we may do a video on this topic in the future!

They renovated the Steve out of this place in a lot of ways & now they want about 20,000.00 a month RENT for it. Steve had had it on the market for 2 million after buying it for $750,00. 😂 The took out the lovely green kitchen cabinets & put some barely green tile in instead. Silly. And added a hideous black, white & green geometric tile floor to one of the bathrooms "as a tribute". The decks & such are basically the same though so that's good & the fireplace is still in the living room as are the wood plank walls. Im glad the kept the outside blue! You can find a short of it beforehand on YT.

I love NYC but $375K + interest and closing cost (so more like $400K) for a walk up seems completely crazy, that could buy you a medium sized house with a driveway in a decent neighborhood just outside the city.
