This would have been SO much better if she had a Japanese translator there to enable her to convey her thoughts and emotions more easily. My only complaint. Otherwise this was fine and she is amazing!

The snare drum sounds terrible. Over the the last 2-3 years I watched from time to time the progress of this lady drummer, as a pro jazz drummer AD. For me is that all the same drumming style. I don't see any development progress! Skillfully but almost very same. My personal meaning!

A giant in a small package. What an amazing drummer. She talks about "musicality" in others but she exudes it with every hit. Her timing, her groove, her swing is unbelievably good.

Outstanding interview here. Despite being a huge Senri fan, I was unaware she spoke such good conversational English. Learned where the Gecko comes from. Learned who her "idols" are (Ian Paice was a surprise, expected a Jazz drummer)..... get to watch Senri playing the drums in time signatures it requires a PHD in Calculous to decipher, and finally, get to watch Senri once again channel The Force in a drum solo. Obi-wan must be getting tired of saying, "Use The Force Senri, Use the Force".

This is my first time hearing these guys, except of course, Senri. Great musicians all! I hope to see more of them. BTW this music is a good fit with Senri's style. Less traditional than the Blue Note orchestra, but not as phrenetic as some of the other groups I have heard her playing with. She has great chops...always spont-on the beat and you can see her "hearing" the music and not just the drum lines. Great video!

Senri has told the story before with bit more more detail… as I recall it - she said she would practice her drums at night when she was a youngster, and the gecko would appear on the windowsill every night - "He liked to listen to me play the drums" - She said it was much later she learned the gecko came to the window to eat the insects that were attracted to the light from the window! 😆 (And that's reason # 843 of why everyone loves Senri: she has a limitless imagination.)
