Worked in that building on several occasions. On one, I worked in a SUB Basement, Yes, A basement deeper down that is rumored to exist. It is the Vault. We repaired Crypto machines in that vault FAIO Field Army Issue Office). To get to it you went through a door in the basement, down a flight of stairs to a steel door like on a ship that was dodged shut from the inside. Once through that door you went down several more steps to the Vault door (Several Feet Thick) and you were then in the vault. The ceiling of the vault went all the way up to the ground floor and the width was the width of the finger building it was in MINUS the Bared entrance to the walkway that went all the way around the vault to the other bared door on the other side. The guard could see all the way around the vault because mirrors were at the far corners. There was a staircase at the gate location that went up and it was sealed 1/2 way up with concrete. The walls glowed green at night where the exterior paint had fallen away. Must have been repainted after the war. Outside in the main basement was an elevator (inoperative) but we opened it and we could see where it only stoped at a couple of floors above. A very private elevator. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. (1969/70)

I stopped at Keflavik for several hours once. While everyone else lounged about the terminal, I hired a cab to take a quick driving tour of that area of the island. I even saw the Blue Lagoon - from a distance. Lol Best $20 I ever spent!

You can't imagine how much we miss you. Since you left us, things have taken a turn for the worse. As soon as the last troops left, the first (ex) communists arrived and caused us problems. I left Fulda in December 2013 and moved near Stuttgart. At least I still have a few Americans around me here :) If there is anyone else among you who lived on the Aschenberg in Fulda back then, it would be nice to establish contact. I lived in a former American house at Steidlstraße 22a (the house with the biggest garden) xD

Frankfurt's largest City park (Grüneburg Park) is located to the west and the Frankfurt Botanical Gardens are located next to the Grüneburg Park. All of these are in the neighborhood called Frankfurt-Westend. Expensive and it has extensive public transportation: subways and busses.

I was stationed in Germany for four years back in the mid seventies. I happened to visit the Abram’s Building when V Corps was headquartered there. We used to refer V Corps as the Chrysler company due to the design of the unit patch and the car company’s logo. Anyway, I was so in awe of the IG Farben /Abrams building. Frankfurt was/is an amazing city.

I thought the same thing about the unit patch. It is a heck of a building and glad I was able to spend time there and ride on those crazy paternoster elevators.

The first story about the relief effort reminded me so much of a relief effort to Romania that several of us made in early 1993. We joined with the international police association, the British Police, and the German Police to drive 16 tractor trailers from Wiesbaden to Bucharest, with several stops in Western Romania as well. It was an awesome and life changing experience.

Rhein Main was my hub between 1990 - 98. Approximately a dozen flights I took either originated or terminated there. My last visit, as a civilian, was in 2002. Some of my best military memories 🇺🇲
