Great short film! Thanks for sharing! I worked in the post office at Abrams when I was stationed in Frankfurt in the mid-80s. I see you were at McNair during that time, so you may have seen one of my coworkers who was assigned to the McNair PO. My company had postal clerks assigned at all of the kasernes and camps around Frankfurt. Before being given the plum assignment as a postal clerk, though, all the newbies in my company were assigned to a warehouse in Offenbach, where we sorted all of the mail coming into Germany off of trucks from Rhine Main. There's a good chance I had my hands on your family's mail. lol

I began listening to AFN Stuttgart when my family and I (Army Brat) first moved to the greater Stuttgart area in 1968. Attended High School at RB, then in Pattonville. Returned to Stuttgart after my ETS and loved AFN Stuttgart until it switched to The Eagle. I miss the good old days of the 60s and 70s (and RB).

When I was a kid I read Zillions magazine (basically the kid version of Consumer Reports) and I actually wrote to them nominating this PSA for the "Bug Squad" intended to showcase misleading or objectionable commercials just because I thought it was too weird. Also, for years I mistakenly remembered the guy saying "a Cheez Doodle!"

My stent in Europe with USASTRATCOM-EUR at the BENELUX Detachment at Chievres, Belgium lasted from October, 1971 to the end of February, 1973. One of my favorite pastimes was listening to "Weekend World" on AFN, one of the announcers of which was Milt Fullerton.

This really skips over a lot of the history. The black beret was originally worn by British tank crews and then given to US armor crewmembers. It was worn by US Cavalrymen in Europe in the 1970s. By the 1970s the multitude of official and semi-official headgear was getting out of hand until a moratorium was issued and only the 3 berets in this commercial were left. The Rangers claim the black beret was theirs, but it wasn't exclusive to them until the early 80s.
