Chapter 3 was a step in a better direction in my opinion, and it’s length was a weak point also in my opinion (the amount of puzzles broke up the tension a little too much for me, like the cave section just sucked), so a shorter chapter is fine to me. I’m worried that the horror will still be… uninspired, if that’s the proper word? It’s definitely gotten more prominent, so I’m hopeful that they smash it out of the park this time. Also Mob Games controversy? What’s new, honestly?

I'm surprised the game hasn't received a M rating yet, there's a lot of intense and dark moments throughout the series. And I would be okay with CH4 being short, about 30mins to 1hr similar to CH2, would also explain how they managed to get it out so fast even if they were working on both chapters at the same time.

I think there is a bit of a bias that the internet is guilty of collectively and it's, simply put, assuming the worst when someone makes a video essay or discussion type video like your last one and running with it. Let me just add a disclaimer to this: I am in no way a psychology expert and I do not claim to be, but it doesn't take a PhD to know that the law of the Internet as a whole is "Guilty until Proven Innocent" rather than the other way around. People are quick to jump to conclusions, especially when they have the safety of anonymity. Either way, I think both this video and your last video was a healthy discussion on the topic.

bruh, clearly they gonna hire more people to help with art, gameplay, programming etc, along with advertising, merch, etc. if this is gonna be a long project, its good to invest with merchandising and advertising. in the end if they release the game and its a great product, there really isnt an issue. plus people asked for merchandise, its another source of revenue to fund the project. the more he gets the better he and his team can make the game. why are people always so dang suspicous when a project gets funded. like they literally just released an update for chapter 1 to update the look, overhaul animations and more. its an idiotic thing to expect someone not to make merch for their successful project, whether its soley to have an extra source of money or because fans asked for it. why be concerned when this concern should be about big name games from companies being shilled out with paywalls for base game content for $100 and ridiculous microtransactions.

Yikes I understand you're concerns but as seen on the comments u got some information wrong which kinda paints Mason in a bad light when it wasn't the case. Really should've done more research in these type of topics, especially the merch being demanded by fans and Mason having no choice but to give the fans what they want.

ngl, I'm not the biggest fan of Indigo Park. Yeah, the graphics are great, and the mascots are charming, but I don’t think Chapter 1 lives up to the hype. It is really just lack luster, and the gameplay is almost nonexistent. On top of that, the whole merch situation rubs me the wrong way. If you say you don’t want to release merch and explain that you’re trying to avoid the project looking like a cash grab, then stick by your word. Changing your stance later just makes the game feel like a cash grab anyway, and you seem untrustable. Honestly, I’m pretty sure that if Indigo Park wasn’t developed by a KZbinr who was already somewhat known in the indie horror community, it wouldn’t have had the same level of success. That said, I still hope the game improves and gets the updates it deserves. Right now, though, it just doesn’t have me that hyped. I’m even half-expecting an Indigo Park movie announcement before Chapter 2 even comes out.

The reason behind the merch is simply supply and demand. The fandom demanded the merch. Not to mention that most of the money from the Kickstarter and the merch is going towards the game. They're probably not seeing most of that money in their bank accounts given taxes and company costs.

So, as someone who actually works with one of the big cheeses behind this project, I can actually fill in at least a few gaps in what you know and what's going on behind the scenes. Mind, I'm not part of the game team, and that means I'm not privy to everything, but I wanna address a couple concerns you bring up. They didn't do a kickstarter "due to financial troubles with the first chapter". The first chapter was made in the span of a year, with all costs being out of pocket with a fairly bare-bones crew, all while Mason was finishing up school and dealing with Life (as we all are). He (and the team!) want this next chapter to be more polished, to be closer to the bigger ideas he/they have, and to do that, they need to hire more folks to help with coding, design, artwork, animation, etc. The Kickstarter was to make that possible, but even if the Kickstarter had *failed*, they were still going to proceed with future chapters, because it's a story they want to tell. I can tell you this much; the team was gobsmacked so hard by the success of the Kickstarter. They actually didn't expect it to meet the goal, and were privately working on a plan to pay the difference in themselves to whatever the Kickstarter itself raised. They expected it to stay a small indie venture that might entertain the folks from their existing reach and social circle. When the Kickstarter met its goal in less than two days, they just about panicked; the growing hype shocked *everyone*. The tiers you spend a lot of time highlighting as if they were ridiculous were optional, and available for the people who wanted them. A lot of the cost would go to actually producing all the promised rewards- which you point out include several physical items, including stuff signed by the team. They also have to pay *taxes* on those funds, which actually eats up another significant chunk, and that's true both for the KS and the merch. So between all those factors, the ACTUAL amount they're walking away with in terms of strict 'profit' is MUCH lower. Mason said that they weren't going to focus on merchandise, and that's still true. When he says that people were literally yelling for it, he and the core team were facing a lot of pressure to make some. I'm not exaggerating when I say it bordered on harassment. And, well, it's a win-win situation, since folks get merch of something they want, and yes, the team would come away with more funding to polish this AND future chapters. While I'm absolutely in the camp of "screw Capitalism", it's the system we live under, and at the end of the day the creators are looking at avenues for income. You know what's cool about multiple revenue streams coming in to support the creators? They can make it their full time job to work on this and possibly future games, instead of having to stretch themselves even thinner working your typical day job on top of the stress involved in making a videogame. And while they could have rested on their laurels following the release of chapter one and success of the KS and plushie campaigns, I can also confirm that they have been hard at work on both the newly released chapter 1 update (which polishes a LOT of some of the rougher things the game had on launch) and getting the ball rolling with Chapter 2. I can't speak to whether they'll run another kickstarter for future chapters following Chapter 2- that might be something contingent on how successful this next chapter is. But I know that the plans for the chapter got MUCH bigger when the budget turned out to be higher than they ever thought they could have for it, and it made them all the more determined to pull out all the stops and show appreciation for the support that they got for the game. There might still be bumps; this is pretty much everyone's first game, and that always comes with hiccups. But my understanding is that Chapter 2 will not be NEARLY as limited in scope as the first one. The team has every intention of being transparent on where the money from the fundraising is going, even if they can't talk about certain things because of NDAs and whatnot. It might still have to be a Wait-And-See in terms of whether or not they betray the trust and support that they've been shown, but having seen the excited and baffled glee from my friend, I believe that it's the honest effort to make this work for everyone involved. I can't tell you to trust them, I can only say that I do. Anyway, if you read all that, I appreciate it ^^;; I see how happy this success has made my friend, and for how long he's suffered up until this point, I'm grateful he's seen a change in some really, REALLY awful luck (especially as a creator). It's good to be skeptical, especially when there've been so many cash grabs with the genre, but I hope that the sincerity I see on the semi-inside loop is eventually felt outwardly by everyone else.

i think they might use the leftover money for future chapters. also mason only said he is opposed to making merch of a game before it even releases. all of the game's merch has released AFTER the release of chapter 1.

However if you visited the Discord, read his youtube comments, and stream chats his audience was demanding it... He also (so far to my knowledge) is only making Rambley... and his issue was making things marketable... well... as a Graphic Designer... Rambley is already pretty marketable... that's kind of the point with mascot horror. I get the vibe that you just hate games getting monetization at all... yea the teirs are a little whacky but nothing out of the ordinary and much like how League released a $400 skin for Ahri (and people bought it) some people found value in the tiers for Indigo Park... personally I don't fall prey to FOMO and I don't get swept up in fandoms as much as others (even though sometimes I would love too) to the point I can/want to drop hundreds of dollars on something... but I don't fault people for buying into it if they value it. It isn't YOUR money YOU have no say over it. Capitalism is built on self gratification, as much as I hate capitalism it's the best we got and if you have the money to spend, and want to spend it, you shouldn't just do it because you want to... you should do it because it keeps that money in circulation. The $2500 tier is now being broken down to pay the developers, who will then spend it on food, clothing, and maybe a self gratifying purchase of their own. 8:00 - "We are working with companies to potenitally handle some merchandising" 7:21 - "Some big merch companies have already reached out to me and asked if we wanted to do merch, and I did give them the OK to start thinking about it". These two lines mean almost the exact same thing... I can't help but feel you are being VERY disingenuous about this whole video because you seem to... well flat out ignore that he says the same thing now and back then... he was never against merch but had thought about it and it is a good way to fund the project... and as I said above his audience was begging for it... it's not like it wasn't something that was on the table nor is it something that is unwanted. So far the ONLY one to have an issue with it that i've seen is you. This whole video doesn't seems like 'What should they do' it just seems like a place for you to vent about being 'betrayed' they dare to make merch off of their own IP.

awesome video! I did like the game, I love the characters and I'm glad they got the money for future chapters! But still getting 10x more money than you needed couuld definitely be somewhat dangerous.. I do hope they make some compromises such as making the game cheaper than they were originally going to make it, or even free, also considering they're continuing to make merch even after all this money they've gotten. Letting anyone play your game for free in exchange for making money from merch and a kickstarter seems completely reasonable imo

I’m sure this is an unpopular opinion, but it’s a little weird for me that UniqueGeese stated that the second chapter of indigo park could range from anywhere between 8-10$. I understand that he wants to make a profit off of this, but like, half a million dollars and you still might be charging in the double digits for a CHAPTER game? Not even factoring in even more future merch sales. I know people say that Indigo Park is “one of the good mascot horror games,” but I dunno… it kinda sits a little wrong with me. I mean, way, WAY larger indie games have been made with budgets barely breaching 1,000$, or even 20,000$. If Chapter 2 comes out and it’s a big, quality (and can actually run well please) chapter that sets a precedent for all future chapters and feels like all the money from the kickstarter is going to a good cause and funding the full game, then I’ll disregard all of this, though.
