It looks like he was in Ospedaletto Italy in the footage (14:37). It also appears to show the cost in the background of the City sign. However when I look on the map there is no coast line or any major body of water near that city. Any thoughts?

Wow, filmed from "within th flock" doing the iconic manouvres. Incredible. Iconic planes. Praise the camera man. Great shots. The airfield a literal field. A beautifull woman. Enlisted life. Young privileged people trying to normalize their bizarre circumstances. Like we know from war movies, but then with 40's tech and fashion. Pistol shooting, great angles. The destruction and death near the end is sobering. A reality hidden behind the facade of get together, smokes and stunning ladies.

Any information on the colour cameras/hardware used in the video?
@GermanWWIIArchive12 сағат бұрын
Not really, the only thing I know is that it was taken on a 16mm color camera.
@Ronald07012 сағат бұрын
Color film used must be Agfacolor. Before the war, Kodachrome was also available (import).

Two important things about this footage: First, it has been re-arranged and edited several times, so the footage is not necessarily in chronological order. Scenes from one year might appear right next to scenes from two years after, and so on. Another thing to keep in mind is that this was filmed on a 16mm camera. This means that the footage is not as clear as most of the other footage you can find on my channel, which was filmed with proper, 35mm movie cameras. As cameras and filmrolls were extremely expensive, even more so color cameras, many people opted to buy a 16 or even 8mm camera, as both the camera itself and the film rolls for it were much cheaper compared to a proper 35mm camera.

But it could also be that these women are Air Force auxiliaries who tagged along on a skiing trip. 01:21 As written before, this footage was re-arranged and edited several times, hence the sudden cut between these two scenes. 01:25 I was actually not able to recognize this plane, it seems to be a rather rare model, if anyone knows what it is, please let me know. 01:35 These planes are Bf-109 fighters. As this is private footage, this is most definitely not taken during combat, but probably during a training flight. 02:18 This dark green/brownish color scheme was used by the Stab/JG 54 while stationed in East Prussia in June 1941, so I assume this footage is from June 1941. 02:30 This machine is the one vom Hofe flew, as indicated by the green heart on the side of the cockpit, as well as the white line and circle on the fuselage. You can find an image of his machine here: luftwaffeinprofile.se/vom%20Hofe.html 03:47 While I am not 100% sure what the first two symbols are, the one at the bottom, with the black cross on a red base and the three white planes is the unit insignia of the 3rd Group of JG54, above, the black Panther, is the insignia of the 2nd Group of JG54. 04:05 This sign reads “Squadron Command Post JG 54 Adjutant” 04:15 This sign reads “Wing Commander Major Trautloft” Johannes Trautloft (1912-1995) was a German Air Force officer during WWII. He got a civilian pilot license in February 1932, joined the German Army as an infantry officer in October 1932, and got a secret fighter pilot training in the Soviet Union. He fought during the Spanish Civil War, where he was one of the test pilots of the new Bf-109. During WWII, he fought over France, Britain, the Balkans and the Soviet Union as part of JG 51 and 54. In July 1943, he was appointed “Fighter Plane Inspector East”, subordinated to Galland. In this position, he was in charge of training and equipment of all fighter planes on the Eastern Front. In addition, he was also made “Inspector of Day-Fighters”, in November 1943, making him responsible for all day-fighters. In this position, he is credited with saving around 160 Allied airmen which were held at the Buchenwald concentration camp by personally intervening and saving them from being executed by the SS and having them transported to a normal Air Force POW camp. Following an argument with Göring, he was relieved from his commandos in January 1945. After the war, Trautloft joined the West German Air Force in 1957, rising to the rank of deputy Inspector of the Air Force in 1961. In total, Trautloft shot down 53 enemy planes during WWII and 5 during the Spanish Civil War. 04:46 Captured Soviet geese, I guess? 05:06 This plane is a Soviet I-16 fighter plane, captured by Finnish forces. The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet single-engine fighter aircraft, introduced in March 1935. By the time of its introduction, it was considered one of the most modern fighter planes in the world, armed with two 7,62mm MGs and two 20mm machine cannons, and powered by a 1,100 hp radial engine. However, by 1941, it was outdated, and production stopped in 1942. 10,292 planes were made, and the Finnish Air Force operated a number of captured machines in WWII. 05:15 The blue Swastika on a white disk was the symbol of the Finnish Air Force during WWII. 05:21 This Finnish officer holds the rank of Colonel. 05:34 This plane is a Junkers Ju-88. Designed as a fast bomber, a lightly armored bomber that could outrun enemy fighters, it was designed from August 1935 onwards, and it entered service in August 1939. As WWII progressed, the speed of fighter planes became quicker, and the Ju-88 was no longer able to outrun enemy fighters. Due to its light armor and defensive armament, it was not able to withstand much damage. Later in the war, it was also used in various other roles, such as a heavy fighter, night fighter, torpedo bomber etc. In total, 14,882 planes were made. Finland bought 24 Ju-88s from Germany in April 1943, meaning this footage was taken after April 1943. 05:51 This plane is a Junkers Ju-52. It was introduced in March 1932 as a civilian passenger and transport plane, where it proved to be comfortable and reliable. During WWII, the Ju-52 was used by the German Air Force as their main transport plane, both for men and supplies, and was also used by paratroopers. However, its slow top speed of only 290kmh and its weak structure meant that many were shot down by enemy planes and AA-guns, it was generally outdated. During WWII, around 3,300 Ju-52 were built and delivered to the German Air Force until mid-1944. 06:21 These are again Bf-109 of JG 54. The 5th Staffel of JG54 was stationed in Finland until 1944. 06:32 These are kill markings, each white stroke stands for a destroyed enemy plane. If you look closely, you can see the emblem of the respective air force on the top of each stroke: The first one is a Polish Air Force emblem, followed by seven RAF emblems, the following 18 are Soviet Air Force emblems. This indicates that this pilot shot down 26 planes, one Polish, seven British and 18 Soviet. 07:48 This plane, Yellow 1 of the 9th Staffel of the 3rd Group of JG54, is a Bf 109 F-4, piloted by Hans-Ekkehard Bob (1917-2013), who joined the German Air Force as a fighter pilot in 1938, and did around 700 combat missions in WWII, achieving 60 kills, 37 of them on the Eastern Front. 08:11 The license plate on this car indicates that it belongs to the Air Force. (WL stands for “Wehrmacht Luftwaffe”) 08:50 This sign just says “Swimming Pool” 09:45 This plane is White 2, a Bf-109 of the 7th Staffel of JG54, flown by Johannes Halfmann while in Finland. There is very little information about Halfmann available, but the 7th Staffel left the Eastern Front to take part in the defense against Allied bombers over Germany in March 1943, so this footage can be dated before March 1943, most likely (based on the lack of snow) Summer 1942. 11:04 Men of fighter units had a lot of free time, as they weren’t constantly fighting, and they were not directly on the frontlines. Also, when the pilots were out on mission, there was little to do for the ground crew, and when the planes were being services, there was little to do for the pilots. It was therefore quite normal, especially when a unit was stationed at one place for a longer time, to spend their times raising animals and growing plants. 11:19 This symbol is the unit logo of the 7th Staffel of the 3rd Group of JG 54. 13:06 This man is a Generalmajor (Brigadier General), the lowest general rank of the Air Force. 13:10 This plane is a Fieseler Fi 156 Storch, a German liaison aircraft, introduced in 1937 and built until the end of WWII. Around 2,900 were made. It had excellent STOL capacity, a low stalling speed of only 50km/h. These characteristics meant that it could land even on short runways. 14:24 The two officers on the left and right of the table are wearing the white summer dress, a specific uniform of the Wehrmacht that had to be privately bought and could be worn during summer, instead of the normal uniform. 14:39 Ospedaletti is an Italian municipality in the region of Liguria, around 120km southwest of Genoa. As no unit of JG54 was never stationed in Italy, I assume this is footage from a private travel there. 17:06 Again, the officer on the left is wearing a white summer dress uniform. 19:17 The building shown here is the famous Hotel des Invalids, a building complex in Paris. Originally built as an soldier’s retirement home, it nowadays contains museums and two chapels. 20:48 These women are female auxiliaries of the Air Force, which were mainly employed as secretaries and to operate telegraphs, telephones, teleprinters etc. 22:40 The red base on the collar patch indicates that this soldier belongs to the AA branch of the air force. 23:14 Pistol shooting was often done by officers, not really for training purposes, but rather for fun and as a competitive game amongst each other. 23:40 This is obviously the wreckage of a shot down British plane, but it is destroyed beyond recognition. 24:17 These are French police officers.

I'm 56 never seen any of this footage before, where has it been all these years? It's some of the best quality colour footage from WW2 I've ever seen. I suspect it would look stunning if restored. What am I saying? It looks amazing anyway. As for the Nazis: Nazis and fascists happen when a population is fooled by fear, lies, scapegoating and blind devotion to a leader. In the party there is only punishment or casting out of anyone who is critical or does not agree with whatever the leader says. It stuns me that far right authoritarians are on the rise globaly. Far right supporters seem either to have their own glorious illusion of the far rights history. Either that or they just don't know a basic history of the 20th centuries greatest political crimes. Look at photo's of Berlin in 1933 then look at it in 1945 that's what fascism will do to your country if you let it too close to power for too long.

Very interesting but their map is wildly wrong. Japan never occupied Papua, the southern territory of the Australian territory. They were beaten at Milne Bay and Kokoda saving the capital Port Moresby so this never happened. With Midway and Coral See this was actually a major turning point in the Pacific War.
