Lawd, my extended family from the immediate family is such a kallaloo, for daddy’s thru the gens just did NOT stay at home. So many “step” EVERYONE, as if breaking down who was auntie from first set of children of great grand mother isn’t enough to detangle. Loving your content as I go thru funeral pamphlets collected by cousins who have shared. Starting to feel like God’s Wuk, lol. If nothing else, we have PURPOSE. Love to all my Caribbean detectives of the family legacies.

I truly believe the real cash crop in the Caribbean may have been the breeding of slaves: separating the children from families, shipping them ultimately north to the US mainland. I could be wrong and would to be properly informed. Maternal side, grandfather was a family history buff who shared the family tree to late 1400’s in Germany(Eyelets, Iletz) I lost it during Hurricane Hugo and am still pained deeply. I was so devastated and discouraged that I left the research alone over 30 years. I’m trying once more.

Can you go into some of the layers of subplots of the us naval rule and and the arguments of the constitution definitions and reasons for allowing for a governor in the newly formed USVI? I’m so very confused and would appreciate any direction to literature pointing to the early history of the USVI after purchase by the United States and their naval occupation. Thank you.

My family did our history many years ago which wasn’t hard because my family kept a lot of history being that we are one of the oldest families to come out of St. Criox. (1700’s). My great grandfather was born on Viecas island in the 1870’s and he was the son of a Hispanic woman and a danish man. He married a woman (great grandmother) whose family went back generations as well. My grandfather used to to tell me that even though the US brought the islands in 1917 it wasn’t until after WW2 did he become US citizens (1948). Oddly enough the first borns in our family going back 150 yrs have the same name. It’s slightly different if you were born from a woman than to a man. I was the only one that named my son the name the woman would give t their first born male. It alot of confusion during family reunions because a few of us have the same unique name. I was the last of my immediate family to be born in the USVI. Sadly we do t get any love as Virgin Islanders amongst the West Indians because we are still considered Americans.

My 2nd Great Grandfather Phillip Duprey (diff name varieties) was born in Trinidad 1852, give or take 1 year. The first record is him in the UK 1980 with his wife and first child, as a British Subject. This is a challenge. Your info should be helpful. Thabk you.

your not accurate, with who the Ta ino people were as suggesting the so called black people were not them, they were not str8 haired south american looking people, at least the captain logs of the various ships trading in the area says different-- they only saw negroid people, why they were taken as slaves and were the 1st to be called negro

No mention when Columbus "discovered" the Virgin Islands, that he landed(the first documented landing)-on St. Croix in 1493 or the slave revolts and the negotiations of the sale that also involved the people of VI like David Hamilton Jackson.

Dude I like your content, and intent there-with, though you shouldn't sugar coat the the truths of the past - Germany didn't part with their investments in the Caribbean they withdrew their participation in the plundering and rape of the Caribbean, it's native people, and the African people who were brought there against their will - The Germans had FOMO, attempted to go into business with the invaders, and didn't care (after the fact) what had actually happened there (I.e., you knocked an old woman down to get those goods? Who cares! How much you want for 'em? Unbelievable) - People pre-modern era were a bit savage - let's not hide it.
@elydelacruz Жыл бұрын
Don't sugar coat it - The Islands were taken from the indigenous people of the region by hoards of criminals from the Spanish, British, and Danish Prisons, and Military Regimens (all courtesy of the governments/monarchs of those respective nations), all in the name of their countries, the arcane structures of feudalism, and greed & power.

At 10:30, as a genealogy researcher I would have thought you’d have known better than to say something like this. James II (the Duke of York), who founded the Royal African Company and his brother Charles II, who gave it a royal charter, are not ancestors of the current royal family. Charles II had no legitimate children, and James II was deposed in 1688, with his remaining British line going extinct in 1714, and his Jacobite line being dispossessed of the throne and currently living in Germany.
