I agree it could be better. But I'm glad the pond is getting more attention from the city. For something so pivotal to downtown they haven't given it much attention. Hopefully this is the first of many changes to improve the pond overall.

Slowly retrieve a gulp shrimp on a 1/4 oz jighead on the bottom for flounder. They'll be around those pier pilings. Caught a bunch a few weeks ago on Dauphin Island in the bay.

Riverside Fly Shop has a kayak only pay launch. It's open during the store's hours. They have a waiver you fill out online and you just pay on your way in. Eventually you'll find a day they aren't generating.

That hybrid probably got that big from eating the trout? Wonder how far up those hybrid travel up the sypsey?
@theultimatefisherman
@theultimatefisherman 5 ай бұрын
That's a good question. The world landlocked stripe record is also from down the mulberry fork so maybe there is something to that. I've seen crappie and skipjack run up the sipsey in certain conditions but I don't know much on hybrid or striper movement.

Off topic…I watched an earlier video from Boulder Dam. Is there a boat ramp below the dam? I don’t see anything close on Google maps.
@theultimatefisherman
@theultimatefisherman 6 ай бұрын
As far as I know, the only way to get a boat below Bouldin is to put in at a place like Goldstar Park in Wetumpka and boat down the Coosa before turning back up the channel to the dam. That's a heck of a long ride but I've seen many boats over there and can't think of any other ramps. Maybe a private ramp exists but definitely no state run launch.

Nice video! Thinking of making the trip up from Panama city... what's a good time of year to catch stripers? Do I need any out of state permit to fish there? Thanks!!
@theultimatefisherman
@theultimatefisherman 6 ай бұрын
Striper are heavily targeted in the colder months on main lakes but I've had decent luck under the dams when they try to spawn in the spring. I'm hoping to get a video together on that method but the recent rain hasn't cooperated. As for licensing Alabama has non-resident licenses you'll need for most of our water. If you go to any of the "county lakes" I believe the admission fee covers your licensing for the fishing session. I'd look up the Outdoor Alabama site to make sure.

I basically had a toss up between the two species. I went with the Bay Anchovy because of the lower jaw length. I failed to get a good look at the anal fin location relative to the dorsal fin in that moment.

@@theultimatefisherman I understand, do you know of any bass fishing spots on the alabama river from a kayak ? Also you should fish saugahatchee creek near tallassee
@theultimatefisherman
@theultimatefisherman 9 ай бұрын
Cooters Pond and Swift Creek are the easiest answers but I won't promise easy success, especially on Cooters. You can get out into the river itself and work what cover you can find on the banks and depending how far you are willing to paddle you can find a few creeks to turn up into as well. There is a local kayak group called River Region Kayak Anglers that does bass tournaments and the Alabama River seems to always be the toughest events.

the reason your catching the same species is that you are using the same tactics with the same fish present. Get into that fast water, and HUNT for the specific fish you want, and target them by sight fishing them.
