The Canes have no true 3rd line. They have line 4.1- The Staal line. It is a checking line. 31 team would have that as their 4th line. Line 4.2 is the Drury line. Very little offense. Onther defensive line. I would love to see Suzuki as a true 3rd line Center. I love Drury as a defensive forward but he has ZERO offensiv up side. You do not need both Staal and Drury!!!! I really liked Josiah Slavin and Ryan Suzuki together!!!!! SUZUKI IS READY!!!!!!!!!

Most AHL teams have the look of their NHL affiliate. It says a lot about the teams owner when he doesn't take on the Canes colors! It is important to prospect development to have control of your AHL affiliate. I hope their is a way out of that contract if an expansion becomes available. I know they Tom visited Dorton Arena and was talking to the state about renovating it to bring it up to date. They also purchased the Ice Caps name. That would be awesome and perfect for development.

I do not like the 3 year deal with the Wolves. I feel it's too far from Raleigh first off. They don't play anywhere close for Canes fans to see them play and the Wolves owner is a complete tool! Tom needs to somehow buy them out and move them closer.

@dealy9268 , Hell I do lol they've literally F"ed every franchise to ever have the stupidity of teaming up with them , Didn't the Checkers get sold not long after we signed the deal with these turds ? . Its a development league but this team thinks its still in the IHL so they should take their money and go revive that league if they don't want to be a development league and the AHL has to buck up and get a spine .

Nice tip by Blake but in all honesty he is a step behind the play most of the time. I really feel he could use some AHL time. But he is going to be good. I was at the game last night. I know the fans were mad at the late call on Blake but although it wasn't a trip it was a hold. He got away with it twice already in that shift. He takes bad late penalties. Can sombody please work with Jack Drury on shot location??!?!?!? Every point blank shot he takes is in the goalies chest!!!!! Other than his faceoff work, he was mid last night. He is like toast with no butter! I honestly think it should be Suzuki time!!! Did you see that shot he took in the Wolves game???? And it was on the PP.. The Ghost goal was all KK. That is the part of KK's game people miss. He wins those battles that leads to goals and many times he doesn't get points from his work. Last night he did. I felt KK had a really good game. You have to watch him away from the puck to appreciate his game.

Biggest concern for me is how easy Tampa made shutting down the top line look. Aside from 1, maybe 2 breakaways, top line was basically a non-factor. That line is gonna have to be the driving force on offense, not feeling great based on that game..

I still think Blake would benefit more by spending time in the AHL. He did not appear to be NHL ready. He will be on the 4.2 line since the Canes do not have a true 3rd line. They have lines 4.1 and 4.2.

I love the top two lines. Love to see Svech KK Necas reunited. However I am still not sold on the bottom six. The Canes do not have a 3rd line. They have two 4th lines. Not unless Drury can find some offense with Jost and Robinson. More like can Jost and Robinson bring out some offense in dry toast Drury. The Staal line is a checking line. Most likely will once again be the best checking line in the league but it is a checking line. AKA the 4th line.

I would not be supprised if Montreal picked up Suzuki who IS NHL ready. He had a better camp than ZERO offense Jack Drury!!!!!!!!! Suzuki was even better of faceoffs in camp over Drury. Again as a former pro center, coach and scout , Suzuki would be that 3rd line center the Canes do NOT have! They have two 4th line centers in Staal and Drury. With this and years in past the Canes have a 1st line, 2nd line, and two 4th lines. The Staal line is the best checking line in the league when Staal and Martinook are together. (Unlike in the 2nd round of the playoffs) But lets be honest the checking lines are 99% of the leagues 4th line. Drury is an awesome replacement for Staal when he retires but you do NOT need both of them now! Josiah Slavin had a better camp than Blake in my opinion. Robinson had 1 good game. Jost looked like a good line mate for Drury on the second fourth line. At least the second line of Svech, KK, and Necas are back together as that line elivates all three players and they perform well with each other. I really like the top line with Roslovic with Aho and Jarvis. Both Freddy and PK looked good in camp. I am Glad Martin did not get picked up off of waaivors as he will be called up at some point. Perrets needs AHL time as last year not having Chicago hurt or delayed his development. I can not wait for the season to start.

I like FUS and yes he had a 3 point night but he also ended a -1. He is opposite of Jack Drury. FUS is good offensivly but needs a lot of work on the defensive side of the puck. You know me as I have stated before I see more upside to Suzuki over both Drury and FUS as Suzuki is more 200 ft player than both. Drury is better defensivly and FUS may be better offensivly but Suzuki is better ALL-ROUND player than both. If the Canes do not keep Suzuki up and I was his agent I would ask for a trade at this point. In my opinion as a former center, coach and scout Suzuki is being hurt by the Canes. He is NHL ready.

Some prospects just get screwed and shoved aside by this org. and its a real head scratcher , Like Trikizov comes in and scores a bunch of goals and he gets one game but he needs to "learn the system" and meanwhile Nadeau has been a ghost and not playing defense and physically out matched and he doesn't have to learn and gets several games and the same with Gunler he looked great in the tournament and he's only one of the handful of forward prospects we have with size and scoring skills and e gets pushed aside too same as Trikizov and to a lesser extent Suzuki who actually has size we could use too . Its just mystifying year after year and you see other orgs. who are our competitors developing guys who are 6'3-6'5-6'7 and we are allergic to anyone under 6'1 and ten when we get physically pounded in the playoffs Rod shrugs his shoulders and goes gee! if only we had some bigger guys , Meanwhile we are wasting time on guys who are 35 year old PTO's like Gagner and Grimaldi who are tiny and on the back nine of their careers .

@@rosariocannistraro3561 I Agree. Last year Suzuki came into camp in better shape and out perforemed Drury who yes is a good defensive forward but Suzuki is a better ALL-ROUND Center. Suzuki could be a true third line center. Something the Canes do not have. They have two 4th lines with Drury and Staal. Honestly I would love to see how it would look with i line of Svech Suzuki Necas. Suzuki has worked hard this summer on faceoffs. This was something Rod had stated he needed to work on. So far he is at 70%. He has not lost a faceoff in the defensive zone. I honestly don't get why he is not in the NHL line up.

Jack Drury is the perfect replacement for Staal when he retires. The problem is you don’t need two Staals! The Canes basically don’t have a third line. They have two fourth lines. Drury is a great defensive forward. He is not afraid to get in front of the net as most of goals came from rebounds. I love all of that. He needs to work on his shot location as most of his shots from the cycles are in the chest of the goalie. He is NOT a 2C. He is a 4C! I honestly see more offensive upside with Ryan Suzuki as a true third line center. But you have to hold on to Jack for when Staal retires.

I escaped Long Island NY in 1996. As a former player who was at one time considered a top prospect (until two back to back knee injuries and being short) some knew who I was. (I was surprised as well😂). I was invited to coach with the staff in the learn to play program at the Raleigh ice plex. Yes I was a Ranger fan who at one time had a contract with the NJ Devils. But the Whalers were my dad’s favorite team and my second favorite team so I was excited when the Canes moved here. After that I started my own power skating class at Raleigh Iceplex. I began coaching youth hockey shortly after moving to the Triangle. It was very different. RYH was somewhat jaded as they were doing some shady stuff like stacking their best players on every team. I knew this because they were in my power skating class. But now youth hockey is very strong in the Triangle. As a kid growing up in NY playing in that system I would say Raleigh has surpassed what I experienced. You now also have top shelf youth camps that come here to N.C. top shelf coaches as well. I was so glad to be a part of getting Hockey Ministries International hockey camp to Raleigh in 2008. As a kid I attended those camps and moved on to councilor, pro, power skating coach. It all started with myself and at the time the Canes HMI Chaplain having lunch in a Bo Jangles next to the Saturn dealership on Capital Blvd. We formed a committee to prove the camp would work in the south. First camp was summer of 2008 with Glenn Wesley. The camp did so good that HMI now also has camps in Fl and TX. Jaccob Slavin and Chatty are the newer pros that coach with us in Raleigh. It used to be hard during March Madness to get the kids focused. That is no longer an issue. I love hockey and love seeing how much it has grown in this area. Shane is a huge part of the youth success!!!

Sorry one more comment-. As a former player/coach/scout my take aways from Fridays game. Offense, The line of Roslovic Aho Jarvis could be special. Roslovic brings an added speed and physicallity to that line. They looked very good. Great to see the line of Svech KK and Necas back together and they did not disapoint. KK continued to show jump and looked good with Svech and Necas. That line is dangerous. KK battles while Svech and Necas's skill takes over. The third line that is more like a fourth line of Martinook Staal and Carrier. Staal looked.....I love Staal but he looked like a player that is at the end of his career. His work ethic however is always strong. Martinook and Carrier are perfect line mates. This line will give teams fits and will ware down top offensive lines. Lets hope Rod doesn't make the mistake of seporating Martinook and Staal again in the playoffs. The fourth line that really looked like a third line of all prospects Jo Slavin Suzuki and Gunler was impressive. They were an offensive threat all night but was also defensily responsable. They looked like an NHL line playing against an AHL team. Rod was impressed with Suzuki's performance. Defense- We all know Slavin Burns and Chatty Orlov are solid. Burns looked great. No age issues. Ghost Walker gets my vote. Ghost and Walker looked good together. They moved the puck really well and were good together defensivly. Solid pair that will give you offense as well. Freddy was Freddy. Solid. You can not fault him for either goal. Penalty killing - had that one quick on that got them. Power Play- That first unit is very frustrating. Still no net front and lots of passing looking for the perfect shot. The second unit with KK Suzuki Burns Walker and one other i can't remember (LOL) were very good. They moved the puck quickly, had net front and took shots. The Staal line actually had PP time and looked good. Again it was an AHL team. If I remember correctly all units scored a PP goal. RBA actually started the KK Suzuki Walker Burns +1 unit on most PP after the first Unit looked like trash on the first PP attempt. Overall the game went as it should have.

Here is the isuue. THE CANES DON"T NEED TWO CHECKING LINES!!!!! The Staal line is your checking line!!!!! (99% of NHL teams fourth line) You really need a third line. Here is the problem. Drury is the perfect replacement for Staal when he retires. (Not Captain but that checking line center) But right now you don't need two of those centers. 99.9 percent of Drury's shots are in the goalies chest. Saturday evening we saw that 00.1% when he doesn't shoot in the goalies chest. Can Drury find enough offense to work a real 3rd line????? The Drury line will be a factor one way or the other. Right now the Canes will have to depend on the first two lines for offense. I personally like Lemuiex over Robinson who hasn't really shown much. Jost looks good.

I was at the game on Friday. The game was as it should have been as the Canes team of mostly regulars were playing against basicaly Charlotte Checkers with a couple of vets. However the Canes prospect line of Josiah Slaven Ryan Suzuki and Gunler played really good. As I have been saying Suzuki really impressed with his performance in the dot including 3 for 3 in the defensive zone. He also stood up for his teammate behind the net but was smart when he saw the Canes had a rush going the other way and did not engage in a fight. That rush resulted in the Canes (Jo Slavin) first goal. 1 assist +2 or +3.

KK looked like he had jump. Very good. PK won the game for the Canes. To me S. Brind'Amour looked the best out of the prospects. None of them jumped out as breaking into the atrting lineup and being NHL ready. But it is early. I am happy the Canes have an NHL affiliate again. Jack Drury...... Let look at this. Yes he played a good defensive game. He always does. However he had like two good scoring chances and yes..... he shoots the puck right into the goalies chest like he always does. GIVE ME KK AT 2C!!!!! Drury is a 4C!!! Great replacement for Staal when he retires. But right now do the Canes really need two of those centers? Lets face it the Staal line is your checking line. Usualy your checking line is your fourth line. It is almost like the Canes have two checking lines. You need a third line center with more offensive upside. As far as offence card for Drury.......?????? He has no offense!!!!! He can not finish. He was 50% in the dot!

Freddie Anderson is nothing more then a backup anymore Canes needs to see truly what they have in PK and let him start in what will be let's be honest a rebuild type of year. Previous regime went all in on Skeji, Turbo, etc... and we could never got over the hump. Next offseason we will have vastly more cap space etc... I just cannot see this team making a major push this year to many holes on both sides of ice to replace in one offseason . If we are lucky a fringe playoff team . Personally I would keep all three goalies on the roster b/c Freddie Anderson will never be able to stay healthy the entire season.

The absence of an AHL team did mess up and stagnant development for many Canes prospects so I think a good amount should start out in the AHL and then be called up. The Canes are going to have to go through some growing pains as they shed older vets for younger players. I’d like to see the Canes do some selling for assets and give young guys a chance. Maybe increase the value of some players expiring this offseason and trade them as rentals. With prospects filling the gaps they can take on salary retention to get more assets. If the Canes don’t do too well come trade deadline I’d like Burns to have a chance at a cup. Orlov has been playing a lot better now that he’s seemingly gotten use to the system and if he gets better and isn’t so snakebitten I think he could bring a lot of assets in a trade. I feel like the Canes had put them in a good position for a retool. They have players they can sell off and bring in prospects to still be competitive after the trade deadline.

Honestly the Canes need to go back to the Svech KK Necas line. That line was awesome two years ago before the Svech injury. That line had KK and Necas flip flopping at Center. It worked well. Was KK getting points? No. But he started most of the plays that ended up being scoring plays. If 3rd assists were a thing KK would have racked them up. That would lead to a question of who do you slide into the top line? I think you need to add some grit to protect Aho and Jarvis. Some may laugh but why not Lemouex? He has a shot. We have seen it. He has some skill. Aho and Jarvis could bring it out of him. And again your forgetting Suzuki! The kid was ready last year and it has leaked he had played his way into the lineup but was taken out by injury from a dirty hit Vs the Lightning in the last preseason game. He has added muscle this off season. Probably one of the hardest working guy this off season. We shall see.

I really like Glen Trikozov a lot too. Bradly Nadeau and Jackson Blake are really good too but I’d like to see them play in the AHL first. Noel Gunler and Felix Unger Sorum looked really good too. Unfortunately Justin Poirier was injured I’ve heard he’s a great sniper who’s an offensive driving player whose role is to score goals. The Canes don’t have too many players like Poirier but he does need some time to develop too. The Wolves should be dominant in the AHL now with so many good prospects playing for them. The concern with Suzuki is how injury prone he is and his eye troubles due to that unfortunate injury. If it wasn’t for that injury he would probably be a star like his brother.

A lot of them are younger prospects and many of the top prospects the Canes have haven’t played either pro and or North American hockey. A lot of other solid prospects that the Canes have are in Russia right now.

Hey Guys, great show! I feel like the isles are gonna do better than most people think. It may not look like it on paper, but last year was kind of an off year for them. The start half of the year we had a very injured defense, washy goaltending, and mediocre offense with one of the worst coaches and staff in quite a while, and because of a late season rally using more or less the same roster, still made playoffs. Patrick Roy proved himself getting us two separate 6+ game winning streaks as well as increasing everybody's defensive stats and performance. with a new PK coach, some other goalie staff hires, and Duclair being brought on as well as Martin + Clutter getting the boot giving Holmstrom and McLean an opportunity to prove themselves which i do except them to do, both having a great first real season. Something would have to go horrifically wrong for them not get at least a wild card .
