13 years ago, I was practicing to sing a song for a theatre version of "through the looking-glass and what alice found there", which the director decided should be sung to the tunes of Bonnie Dundee (which of course, as a German, I had never heard of in my life). So me and my best friend searched for it online and this enchanting version was what we found. Over the years, the KZbin algorithm seems to have swallowed this Video, and I honestly thought it had been taken down. Tonight, feeling a bit nostalgic, I was looking for it again to show my wife, and after what felt like hours of scrolling, here it is again (now bookmarked, to be sure). What I am trying to say is, thank you for creating what I believe to be the best version of this wonderful song and for bringing it to my attention, and thank you for unknowingly creating a wonderful memory for me. I hope this message finds you well. Take care, and best regards from Germany

Kev, would you be able to send or link the tab for this? I haven't heard a version like this before and I need to learn how to play this!
@keltickev272 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. Glad you like it. I don’t do tab I’m afraid. However I’m playing all in C and the melody falls pretty much under the fingers. I add some bass runs and that’s about it! Come back if I can do more. It’s a long time since I recorded this, 12 years I see! But I still play it pretty much the same way.

I am not knowledgeable on the actions of the Whig party in the 17th-19th centuries in any country, so I don't know what actions they would have committed that would inspire such a song against an entire group of people for the way they see politics. Would someone mind filling me in on why they think whigs were "so horribly evil?" I understand that because I don't know their history that they very well could have been a group of people who did haenous things, but since Tories are so fond of erasing parts of history they don't like, I honestly haven't heard or seen what's so evil or oppressive or "traitorous" about this party. I simply don't know because all yall do is name-call, you don't get down to business. The comments have been turned off in *every single other youtube video of this song that I can find,* and since I've found disabled comments to be typical of extremists who have an irrational, disgusting hatred of anyone who disagrees with them, it's pretty hard not to assume this song is based in a tribalistic fear and hatred for a people you disagree with, especially considering the rhetoric in this comment section. So, especially in the case that this assumption is wrong, could somebody PLEASE just tell me what the hell the Whig party did that was "oh so bad and terrible" besides jusf complaining to the sky about them being "oh so bad and terrible?"

I thought I would never hear this song again. My grandfather would sing this song. His brother and a buddy had fought at Dunkirk and escaped thanks to a fisherman in St. Valery after their commanding officer told them to get out any way they could. I can't thank you enough for posting this!

Same here! Of all of the countless versions on KZbin, this is by far the one who's touching me the most. Ever considered to re-record it, Kev? I'm sure your Fanbase would highly appreciate it. I mean, a Video that was uploaded 14 years ago and people still come back to watch it, could be worth it. ;-)
