How about a straight wrap application (instead of spiral wrap), perhaps with a cable tie on either end, tightening the cable ties as you go? The tape may need to be a little wider for straight wraps or maybe just overlap. I think the concept has potential for when you can't get shrink tubing over an end - thanks.

It looked like you were melting the cables! I saw the white cord on the left side create bubbles. Is that just one solid strand of copper wire under the tape now?

Great discussion of Public Safety and BDA/DAS systems. I agree that these are important topics that are still in the early stages of development. Many AHJs are only just beginning to adopt measures requiring them in their areas. This means that we have a lot of work to do in the future, but it also presents us with a lot of opportunities. I think that we can continue to make progress in this area and make our buildings (schools, hospitals, apartments, etc.) safer for the people who use them and the emergency responders who may need to access them. Great points Dave, especially regarding the required AHJ information to be provided, by the code they are enforcing. Although, there are a number of cities that have their own systems and the AHJ is the PD and license is owned by the city and managed by the police lt. (think Homestead and Plantation FL and City of Hackensack NJ, just off the top of my head) In reality, the Police are the majority user of these systems, but there is no Police building code, thus falls on the fire marshals shoulders.

Why would you use heat shrink tape for that? Wouldn't you use a cable tie? (the clue being in the name). It's not a good advert as it's made a proper mess of it

If you need to wrap a large length of grouped cables , say a meter long, this would be much neater . I don't know how much this stuff costs , and whether this makes it only viable for hobby or maker projects. The only other thing i can think of is to give fixed cables better shielding. Maybe this would create overheating tho in some cases...

Good concept. Why not have it mildly adhesive to start wrapping. Heat just shrinks it.
@gammaelectronicsinc-cablea6982
@gammaelectronicsinc-cablea6982 Жыл бұрын
The heat actually warms up the adhesive so it can be applied. So, the heat serves two purposes, getting the heat shrink to start shrinking and helping the adhesive to become sticky.

Learned 7mm works perfect. If you are doing the entire length of the cable end to end (versus just to tips), you'll find 8mm is easier to feed the cable through the tube. 6mm is just too damn small. 10mm will work too IF there is a lot of shrink, but your final product wont look or feel as good. Conclusion 7mm for tips only, 8mm for entire length is best. Good luck all my cables now look great and feel STRONG and durable. Woop

How did you get the heat shrink tube around the cord? I am assuming the cord was cut and the video does not show this as the tube is far to narrow to get around a USB C end.
@gammaelectronicsinc-cablea6982
@gammaelectronicsinc-cablea6982 2 жыл бұрын
The cord was not cut actually. The tubing did fit over the lightning end, we just pushed it further down the cord and then back up over the lightning connector in the video.
