Anytime you cook meat you should season it with salt, pepper maybe a little garlic power, etc so the meat will have flavor. Then you cook the sauce around it. Ketchup is not tomato sauce, maybe you call it tomato puree'? The Dejon Mustard is a brown mustard with is not tart and bitter like the yellow mustard. I think if you tried it with some spices and the right ingredients, you may like it.

This is the second video of yours I have seen. Where are you finding these recipes? You need to look in different places. Also, sautee your peppers and onions then add the meat to them. This way the veggies are cooked and blend better with the meat.

another way to toast the bun is to butter the cut sides then place the cut side down on a hot pan for a couple of minutes not long just enough to make it crispy and a bit golden on the cut sides, the non-cut side doesn’t get toasted

Also, the flavor would be helped if you season your meat in the initial browning processs, or when you add the onions and bell peppers. Onion and garlic powder, salt and pepper at minimum. ,we season our meats. If the meat will have batter, we season both the meat and the batter.

I’m sorry your experience wasn’t proper. Great try though, I applaud the effort. The distinctive taste of the sauce, it’s color, smell are the foundations of an authentic Joe! Your recipe just seems a little off. Keep tryin, you’ll get it right.

heard a saying about biscuits that applies here your biscuits are fixing to squat. Bread flour is not the best for biscuits, too much protein in it. Try using all purpose flour or a mixture of bread and cake flour maybe.Also when cutting the biscuits try not to twist the cutter, the twist can seal the edges so they don’t rise hence the squat look. Did the recipe include any baking soda or baking powder because those are usually used to help the biscuit rise as well?

Tomato paste makes it sticky. Adds depth and flavor. On the other end of the spectrum, try mushroom soup, hamburger, onions, garlic, peppers well cooked - YUM City! Pickles ALWAYS welcome! With potatoes chips - GODLIKE!

As a Texan, I have never eaten a sloppy Joe like you made. As a Boy in the 60s, was when it was first introduced in the can, and you just mix it with a pound of hamburger. And everybody loved that back them! You can still get the cans in our grocery stores.

A tablespoon is a bout an eighth of a stick of butter. Our sticks are about half as big as yours cause yours was about 8 ounces half a pound and when it says cup, it's 8 ounces that cup was probably 12 that you use so your flowers too muchso like two of those cups would've been 3 cups so you probably have about a cup and a half extra I make my own recipes and don't actually follow one. I do it by feel when I make bread products the cups fine you should've made them thicker probably won't rise as well because the baking soda might be a little light too since you did a one and a half times the recipe Way too much nutmeg I had paprika and it should have more pepper,
@joecampbell2496
@joecampbell2496 Ай бұрын
No on the nutmeg. And no on what you ended up with as a bisquit. You made a dense flour puck, dryer and harder sounding than scones. Ugh. Bisquits are large and airy and beautifully soft rounds than stand tall enough to seperate into two large halves to carry the gravy. I appreciate your efforts, but really would want you to get the better experience. Black pepper, NOT NUTMEG.

The meat is hamburger not mince. American make a pie with a jar of mincemeat which is a combination of dried chopped fruits and spices, sugar, nuts, alcohol all put in a pie crust. My parents liked it but I never did.

I used to like buttermilk when I was a kid, but now I'd have to agree that it's the worst smelling/tasting form of milk, I've ever encountered. That being said, there's nothing better than buttermilk biscuits/pancakes.

Looks like you did a pretty decent job. Dijon is a little too strong. We used French's (the brand, not the country) Yellow Mustard. It's more mild. We always added a tablespoon of brown sugar and a dash of garlic powder too. Should be a little sweet, savory and tangy. Nice video 👍
@zoniekat
@zoniekat Ай бұрын
Not quite so much mustard. Yellow mustard is better for Joe's. Add a tablespoon of brown sugar. Use red pepper for the color. You learn to adapt to your liking. Sloppy Joes should be very flavorful. I also use a slice of American cheese on top.
@michaelmyers6408
@michaelmyers6408 Ай бұрын
The original old-time recipe for Sloppy Joes has yellow mustard in it, along with catsup and brown sugar. Its no wonder he didn't like it because it should not have Worcestershire sauce or green peppers in it. Those are not in the original recipe. He's also missing the brown sugar, which makes an amazing difference. And by the way, Manwich is absolutely NOTHING like real Sloppy Joes. It tastes terrible, and I would never buy it!
