What is the future of this music when bias as you have shown is indulged in? It is hard enough to pursue a life of music in this art form and one with excellence without being judged so glibly as you have done.

@@2008amalj where’s the judgement and where’s the bias? History tells us that blind worship has done this form, as indeed it has any academic or artistic pursuit, far greater harm than doubt and critical engagement.

Excellent performance. What a tonal quality of Tabla accompanyment!!! Very rarely we see such a balanced accompanyment,totally mixed with the main artist's music.

I heard her sing many times in Pune and Delhi. At first I found her style hard to enjoy because of its severity and harshness. Now I regard it as a profound expression of a life full of sorrows but maintaining hope. In 1986 I was traveling with Bhimsen Joshi and his family and we went to Gangubai's home, where she served us lunch. I am perpetually astonished that I was able to have such an experience. You may not know that when she died at 97, she donated her eyes to medicine. Two people were given sight by Gangubai Hangal's generosity.

I knew her too, went to her home in Hubli a couple of times. She was a very warm unassuming person. She was a great friend of my teacher Mansurji.

Ustad Ali Akbar Khan saheb was unique. With his first stroke on the Sarod he would capture the heart, mind and the soul of the listener and would completely keep him mesmerised. Such was the power of his music.

What is happening with the school in Mysore named after this astounding legend? It makes no sense that such a towering figure in India's cultural life should be associated with a school like this (The Karnataka State Dr. Gangubhai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysore) that has not demonstrated anything substantial. Is it imparting what is great in this art to the future generations? The administrators also do not seem to value or utilize the wisdom of master artists in Karnataka who are willing to be of help. Their collective experience and knowledge could contribute to the qualitative development of this institution (and help it to plan to bring in other quality teachers). Yet these esteemed artists have no say in this. The school, whose name invokes the beloved and giant presence of Gangubai Hangal, has been left to struggle with indifferent bureaucrats in charge, with no love or passion for the music. Is this a frank sign of what the government of India thinks of its great art forms? India's presence globally has been enhanced by the spread of its rich classical musical heritage. Today it is one of the most valuable internationally recognized contributions to world culture and Gangubai herself has an auspicious musical legacy as a musician and performer. After so many years, what of substance has been done in Mysore with this school? It is perfectly placed in a city which has been known to have embraced both Hindustani and Carnatic music with depth and seriousness. What does this reflect now?
