Don't use the propane burner inside the house. If you're scalding or shrink wrapping birds using a propane burner, do it outside. Remember that the pot on top of that burner is going to be tippy. Do a practice run with cold water and see what you're up against. We never did any meat processing inside. We boiled the brine inside and carried it outside. Now with the new fangled plucking machines, all the hard parts are a breeze.

Pot body is formed from a single piece of metal and stamped out in a press (a blank) into a die that's the shape of the pot being produced. There are no welds along the bottom or the sides. The metal is a specific thickness to take into consideration the thickness desired for the final produce after the metal is forced into the die. The handles are often spot welded on. Layers are welded to the bottoms to disperse and retain heat. Depends on the type of pot. These welds (if done correctly by the machine) will cause no holes through the pot. They're heat and pressure welds.

Wood mulch is fine for flower gardens but is detrimental for crop producing gardens. Wood takes alot of nitrogen from the soil to decompose. If you want to mulch a crop garden then you want grass clippings, hay, straw, manure or anything that has already composted. Chicken or turkey litter is great. Straw has the least amount of undesirable weed seeds probably. Grass is good too

A snake will get in the chicken tractor and eat the chicks. It can go underneath or through hardware cloth larger than 1/4". Chicks should be indoors until fully feathered. Any predator can dig underneath. I just love my chickens and do everything possible to protect them. They come to me running like little puppies. 😊

You're amazing! I'm going to pray I'm like you, baby wearing , homesteading mama a year from now!! If you're planting asparagus roots, I'm pretty sure you plant in the spring, dig a deep trench, amend with lime, and cover some more with soil, then spread out your roots , fill in with soil around roots, and I know the crowns are covered I just don't remember by how much soil, plant 2 feet apart, and your strawberry plants as a ground cover in between! 10 plants per adult as a general rule for asparagus.

Homesteading is fun, rewarding, and hard work! Always expect the unexpected 🤣😬Pigs are awesome, but they have a good bit of force in their bodies. Definitely need a way to keep them in the area you want them to stay. We used a pallet fence. Our goats do more weed eating vs our pigs.
