The ironic thing is that while wolf hierarchies can not be characterized into alpha and beta among the males, our closest ancestors chimps can actually be fit into this system pretty well. Chimp hierarchies and takeovers are like an episode of game of thrones.

How it was used centuries ago and how it's used today are very different. One of the few people I saw only use X-mas was this dude who hated Christianity. And I guarantee you people using xmas aren't thinking about some centuries old greek word. The common modern word is Christmas. People don't say happy xmas when they speak. They say merry Christmas. So whatever the root was, secular people found it a convenient thing to appropriate. All you can say that is that it's origins wasn't about taking Christ out of Christmas. But most people including myself don't care about where and when it originated nor had any idea of when or how it originated because it's not relevant to how it's applied in the modern time. Today it is used in that way. When we are saying that it's about taking Christ out of Christmas, we aren't making an origins claim. We're making a claim based on what we observe in the modern day. If you want to use that argument then basically every modern word in its application can be argued into whatever you want to argue it into because if you go back far enough you can find some old root word that had a different application during that time.

Always give several good real life-like examples of whatever concepts you're talking about. I see this failure in so many otherwise good videos. They will describe a list of concepts, but rarely if ever give practical examples of how they work. Examples bring the concepts home, and make them more relatable, as well as more thoroughly understood. It will also make your videos longer, so you get more youtube time credit.

The Archimede one itself can be explained in many ways one can be to by consider how much time it takes for the system to iterate it's steps. You'll end up with an infinite summ (a series) of smaller and smaller time intervals, wich is gonna be a convergent one (one that will have a finite result), wich will lead to the time necessary for Achilles to reach the tortoise.

From what I’ve been taught, “irregardless” is more specific than that and is meant to more or less shut down a back and forth of “regardlesses”. So it’d be like: “Statement.” “Regardless, rebuttal.” “REGARDLESS, rebuttal rebuttal.” “IRREGARDLESS, shut down.”

@TheEditorExp That's totally fair! Philosophy can definitely be a labyrinth, and sometimes you need to retrace your steps or take a detour. It's great that you're drawn towards theology - it shares some core questions with philosophy but explores them through a faith-based lens. Reworking the basics is a fantastic approach. Nietzsche is a great starting point for grappling with ideas of God and morality. Aquinas might have to wait a bit, but hey, maybe someday you'll be ready to tackle those medieval headaches . First, frictionless ball on a hill, gravity is the force that starts it. Book on bookshelf yada yada etc etc... universe... The one and only... Done👌🏼irresistible force paradox... Human absolutism thought processes and pointlessness at it's finest. Tea leaf paradox, outside liquid moves faster than in the center... You stop... Tea leaves stop and deposit in the center where it can't be carried away as easily...similar to sediment in a river. Elevator paradox, downward force makes the water a little more dense, and also pushes the bobber down then the displacement of the bobber makes the water less dense while the floatation of the bobber overcomes some of the downward force and the cycle repeats. Arrow paradox, pictures don't move, moving pictures do. Achilles and the tortoise paradox, pointless... What is "much faster", how much distant is "a head start"... Whoever wrote that paradox should have a mental check up or at least get a life. Hydrostatic paradox, I don't see the conundrum... A kid with a boney ass sits on Santa's lap and then a kid with a fat ass... What one hurts Santa more? Cool topics, warm air holds more water, more water = more rain... Rain comes from high up... Higher up = colder air, colder partly because it's less dense and can't hold as much energy/heat. I have to much of a life to continue.

@brandenwaite Hey thanks for the comment! Physics paradoxes are fun thought experiments, even if they get a little weird. They push our understanding of the universe and can lead to new discoveries! For the tea leaves, it's centripetal force in action! Elevator paradox? Buoyancy wins! Achilles and the tortoise? It's about the nature of motion, not who wins. Hydrostatic paradox? Pressure acts equally!

This video needs a continuation which not only explains what the paradoxes are stating but how they're dissolved. For example, Zeno's paradoxes like that of Achilles vs. the tortoise leads to a geometric series for a quantity smaller than 1, so it has infinitely many summands but a finite value.

Thanks for the heads-up, @jenspoiliphohmann1876! You're spot on about the parallel lines. In a perfect depiction of the Moving Rows Paradox, the rows would definitely converge at a single point in the distance to show they're truly parallel.

@jensphiliphohmann1876
@jensphiliphohmann1876 Ай бұрын
It's not necessarily lies, it also can be errors in thinking. If you, for example, split time in tiny _but nonzero_ parts, Zeno's arrow will have been displaced by a tiny _but still nonzero_ distance. If you dismiss that distance as essentially zero without doing the same with the time, you get the arrow paradox. If you dismiss both as zero, you get the ambiguous and therefore undefined 0m/0s which could be any speed.

@ThePigmentPlayground
@ThePigmentPlayground Ай бұрын
@mryeet1952 Thanks for the comment! That's a great point about Zeno's paradox. It definitely uses a lot of mathematical ideas like infinity and divisibility. But the reason it's considered a philosophical paradox is because it challenges our everyday understanding of things like motion and change. It makes us question how something can be made up of infinitely many parts, or how something can actually move from one place to another. What do you guys think? Is Zeno's paradox more math or philosophy? Really glad you enjoyed the video overall!
@mryeet1952
@mryeet1952 Ай бұрын
@ThePigmentPlayground so while I get that, it seems to me more in line with physics and calculus because motion and entropy (change) are things that you measure within that. All in all great video and I think it does have a basis in philosophy, I just love to debate and especially with people who are knowledgeable
@ThePigmentPlayground
@ThePigmentPlayground Ай бұрын
@mryeet1952 Thanks for sharing your insights on Zeno's paradox. You're absolutely right. Zeno's paradox uses mathematical concepts and connects to physics with motion and infinitesimals. But it also delves into philosophical questions about reality, like infinite divisibility and how continuous motion works. Perhaps that's what makes it so interesting - math provides a framework, but philosophy asks the deeper questions. What are your thoughts on how these disciplines work together to understand Zeno's ideas?
@mryeet1952
@mryeet1952 Ай бұрын
@ThePigmentPlayground I agree completely I think it finds itself in math as a problem but then becomes a philosophical manner when you apply it to certain topics. I think that it comes most prominently in my mind as becoming a master at something. The first steps you take are going to be your largest because you're taking the most information in. As time goes on you have to hone your craft but the improvements will be much more subtle such as increased speed or better technique. But where the philosophical paradox comes in is when is someone truly ever a master at something, and is is possible to be so good you can't improve
@ThePigmentPlayground
@ThePigmentPlayground Ай бұрын
@mryeet1952, Thanks for sharing that! The concept of mastery and its connection to Zeno's ideas is a fascinating one, opening a new way to look at the paradox.
