Just tobe clear: THIS WAS NOT IMPROVISED. Here is the original, by Johnny Hodges in 1966: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZiTYWxnnpikb7csi=OGW7PgznPwhjkOS3 If Andrea used Joan's usual method, she transcribed the piece and then learned to play it. That isprobably harder than improvising!

Improvising shit is easy, improvising greatly is not. It is 1000x easier to imitate than to come up with such great ideas on your own. To come up with ideas, first one has internalized a thousand others and their technique.

I've called Rita feral before now. Not a tame singer. Of course this is "felt" music, sublime as it is. Music about a life, it twists her gently and she twists its tail in return at the end. The jazz sensibility gives you the techniques for change and the blues/fado sensibility means you have earned that license. This jazz/fado rendition tugs the heart more than the formal perfection of the version at the Jamboree Club when a classical (dressed up!) rendition was given.

Bon le cameraman n est pas aussi fort que les musiciens du SAJB...mais l essentiel reste la musique, très plaisant chorus de Me E Fernandez et la direction du big band comme toujours au top....
