I just heard this while watching 'Rogue Heroes'. I'd heard the phrase before but had no idea it was an actual song. 👍

Thank you for the classic Noel Coward tune, Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Love the clarity and wit of the lyrics, capturing the spirit of British life. I always equate Mr. Coward with this song all the time. Never gets old.

amazing, it looks like it's been projected and then filmed the projection screen. I wonder who has the original film so they could digitalize it directly and have much better quality...

Hello Dear Friends, My Grandparents owned The Big Hotel and The Dance Hall. Grampa was Alva Best, Grandma was Florence May Morley Best. Thank you for showing this video. I was born November 23,1954 and I lived in the little house on the other side of The South Shore Train, and at Grandma's Hotel until I was 3. Happy Holidays to everyone, and God Bless You.

Great to see these images and music again!!! Ascona Jazz Festival. I was here in 2000. Back then this festival was still full of this swing jazz. Nowadays this kind of music is hardly heard at this festival. Too bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greetings, Herman Nieuwegein NL.

I've just returned from the Philippines where the noon temperature was around 33-35 degrees C, and as a proud Englshman I did exactly as the song says. On one occasion I spent nearly two hours walking around Rizal Park in the centre of Manila either side of noon. There were plenty of Filipinos there too, but they were mostly sheltering under the trees while I walked around in the blazing sun.

In times of stress, there’s much to be said for wu wei, “action through non-action”. I can easily imagine my school masters commenting, “Yes, we are well aware that that is your attitude, Verney”. Indeed, there are many situations in life where “action through non-action” is not the right response. But still, I strongly question western values. Noel Coward’s immortal song ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’ has even been cancelled by the hated BBC for “colonial attitudes”. This is absurd because his song is packed with self-mockery and tongue in cheek irony, praising the attitude of indigenous peoples the world over in contrast to the madness of the colonial Europeans. And by the way, pythons do romp in mangrove swamps. Coward obviously checked his facts.
