His brilliant artwork inspired me to create my own Cyberpunk city, his fantastic drawings are one of the highlights of Blade Runner.

Ridley should have at least add a quick shot of mercerisum (wilber mercer) in someplace in his story.. just out of respect for Dick.. loved the movie though it really didn't follow the book at all.

In 1993 I didn’t know Art Director David Snyder had worked on Blade Runner. At the time I was a guest of the storyboard artists on the set of Demolition Man - we “raided” Snyders open office just to look at his amazing art books, half of which were Syd Mead volumes.

I was 18 when I saw Bladerunner. I'd been reading Heavy Metal and Omni since I was 14 so this film struck me like first love. If I'd known myself, If I'd recognized how short life is and that one MUST pursue the dream, I would have packed up, gone to hollywood and chased down work in SFX. Unfortunately, I came from working class stock and got a job. If you are young and you have a dream, go for it NOW!!! The whole thing spins past in the blink of an eye.

@ David Bow Wow I thought so, too. I also found it much better on a second viewing. Worth your time, and certainly lovely to see. Tomorrowland is another lovely Syd Mead world but its writer wasn't as skilled. I'm sorrier that we won't see its like again for a while. Which is more of a pity because we should be aiming at the kind if future we want to live in. Anyone who's ever thrown a ball can tell you that it's devilish hard to hit something you're not aiming at. Wait...there's a lesson in there someplace...

Found the entire thing worthless in every way. Not visually interesting at all, very bland and ordinary compared to films out these days, and I saw it in IMAX. Not one memorable scene, line of dialogue, character, set or prop.

I worked on the film for two weeks, two of the longest and most difficult of my life, simply because of the conditions on the set. Ridley ran four, giant rain making machines that continuously poured water on the entire set, from six in the morning, to six at night, and it was shot entirely during the winter months in LA. He shot all of the exteriors at night to replicate the right kind of "feeling," but the hours kept everyone in perpetual sleep deprivation, making the entire experience even more surreal than it was. I think Ridley must have hired and fired three, entire set decorating teams, he was very tough on them. But as history shows, his perfection showed. Bladerunner was a film masterpiece, without equal.

Tokyo and Shangai completely fried my brain. Iit was like walking straight into Blade Runner. Some of my experiences in the back streets of Shinjuku district, hanging with street-wise "hoodlums", could have been part of the BR script.

The fact that we can get glimpses of that dystopian future in cities in real life these days shows what an absolute disservice Bland Runner 2049 was.... extremely lazy in every department.
@canalsoloparaverunvideodem84514 жыл бұрын
@@jjryan1352 From the very moment they announced a sequel I knew that in no way could it live up to expectations, and as I suspected, I found it a total flop. But still I have to say that Luv's character has gradually grown on me, or better said, it was the only character that deserved some attention. It could have been an interesting story, told otherwise. The soundtrack could be saved too, not great but it worked, even if it consisted mainly of chainsaw-like noises. But you cannot do another Vangelis' Blade Runner anyway. Yes, it's a terrible movie, inexplicably overrated too. But just like the original movie, time will put it in its place.

Working on Ridley's set made getting into "character" SO easy. The moment you got there, you were in another world, a tribute to his fabulous set decoration and vision. Scott is a genius a that.
