I have loved Dif Juz since the mid 80s when I was very fortunate to have friends who had their fingers on the pulse of new music! I still listen to Dif Juz today and continue to marvel at their aural compositions. Brilliant!

I will use that line one day when the appropriate situation arises. It's a reference to a Humphrey Bogart film The Caine Mutiny... Where a big deal was made over some missing frozen strawberries.

I worked at 4AD in the mid to late '90s. I helped put the Dif Juz 'Soundpool' compilation (of the Huremics and Vibrating Air 12"s + No Motion track from the Lonely Is An Eyesore comp) together with Dave Curtis. Dif Juz were way ahead of their time and I thought that the music needed to find a new audience as it seemed to inform what was going on at the time as Simon suggests... what was called Post Rock... Mogwai gaining popularity etc.. Tortoise, Jim O'Rourke etc etc . This is early 1999. Dave was great - a really lovely man. He did the art etc and the mighty Tim O'Donnel @ v23 layed it all out. We got the tapes baked and remastered by the sadly no longer with us, John Dent @ Loud Mastering in Taunton. RIP John. If I remember rightly me and Dave took the train down there for the day to sit in on the sessions - but I might be imagining that... I definitely went down. Ah the good old days of the music business.. days out to Taunton to master old 12"s for CD releases... Lost contact with Dave back then when Ivo sold up and we all got laid off @ the old weird 4AD (well almost all of us) - but that's another story!

I pronounce Dif Juz just like Mr Raymonde. It's not how you pronounce the name, it's how you love the music that is most important. IMHO.

So I'm supposed to take the word of a person who writes/pronounces "trust me because" as "trust meh cuz"? and "I am their biggest fan" as "I am THERE biggest fan" on the nuanced pronunciation this band's name? Are you kidding? A linguist, you are not. And you give yourself this authority because you think that you are "there" biggest fan? Exactly how do you quantify a statement like that? There is a 650 page book called "Facing the Other Way - The Story of 4AD" by Martin Aston in which the correct pronunciation of "Dif Juz" is discussed. You can read all about it there, that is, if you can read.
@siriusfeline8 жыл бұрын
Okay, I will factor this in as evidence of its pronunciation. Thank you. You, sir, would have far more credibility around pronunciation if you wrote and spoke the language properly. This lazy, hyper-abbreviated way of modern communication is indicative of a culture in decline. Given your obvious passion for high expressions of art and music, you should challenge yourself to represent with grammatical integrity and clarity.

Better to stay real, positive or negative.
@brianharris72437 жыл бұрын
That was a post hoc rationalisation-Dave C always said it was based on his initials David John Curtis. Richie said it didn't mean anything and when we were in the flat in South harrow it was Dif Juz- pronounced as spelt
