Thank you! Could DIM lower estrogen too much? According to my ratio I'm estrogen dominant, but all my hormones are low - testosterone, dhea, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone. Those levels are via blood test. And I'm hypothyroid. 48 y.o. female.

Dr Brad is the best! After two years under his care I have just got another antibody test and it is well within the normal range. For years before seeing Dr Brad, other Docs would tell me there was nothing I could do to lower the antibodies and it didn't matter, my antibodies were crazy high and I felt awful. Dr Brad has changed my quality of life, the summer before I started under his care (two years ago) I went to Disney land and had to use a mobility cart. May of 24 I traveled Europe, walking 10-15 miles a day with no issues. I cannot express enough how much better I feel!

Thank you dear doctor. My TSH is elevated at 5.3 and my doctor wants to put me on hormone medication for my thyroid, however my T3 and T4 are at normal range. I’ve never had issues with my thyroid. I just lost both my husband and my mother and I am under severe emotional stress and depression….. I am engulfed in grief. I’m 43 and I’m not eating at all, I barely eat to stay alive and I’m losing weight very quickly. I believe all these issues have caused my elevated TSH 😢

But was confusing is low is high and high is low, I wish more doctors or people talking about thyroid would say this, like I'm 0.21 so I'm hyperthyroid which is high, if you're below 3.0 you are low actually if I was that low I would fall asleep. 2 is optimal. And they mark my blood work at the high end low and at the low end high and it's really confusing.

Going gluten free was a game changer for me, but then I replaced my homemade sourdough bread with buckwheat bread and was eating loads of oxalates containing 'healthy' foods as well. I ended up with terrible pain and inflammation in my knees (especially one)! Realised my error and dropped all gains and high oxalate foods and recovered. It was a good lesson to be careful with replacements😊

Hi Nisha, make sure you and your doctor are keeping a close eye on things because your Hashimoto's will fluctuate. I've seen a lot of people over the years who have a temporary hyperthyroid flare up, get put on medication to suppress thyroid function, then they end up feeling much worse when things aren't monitored correctly. Just be careful and make sure you're checking your labs regularly.

Sugar has been the hardest for me to cut out of my diet. I have Hashimotos and MCTD and been off gluten/dairy/grains/soy for over 8 weeks and feel much better! As of two weeks ago I stopped having anything with cocoa in it, but cutting sugar altogether is hard for me. I like fruit, honey and pure maple syrup, dates and raisins - but I’m finding that I’m craving more sugar and ignoring signs of being full when eating. I didn’t realize sugar is what causes that? ? That gives me more motivation to cut out sugar.

I've had a long term constipation problem which I have been working on improving the past few years. Generally, it has gotten substantialy better to where I am going almost every day. A few months ago I started taking Metagenics Ultra Flora Acute Care which helped considerably. I was enjoying full daily poops for quite a while! Now it suddenly is not working and I can't figure out why. I did take Biocidin capsules for a few wks and I don't know if that might have changed things in my gut. Any idea why that probiotic supplement is not having the dramatic effect it once had?

I had a car accident in 1997. A few weeks later I started to feel like dog crap. I felt that way for 20+ years. Couldn't work for the last 10. The whole time, my TSH was around 0.15. Nearly 40 doctors all said, "Maybe that's just how your body runs." I couldn't get them to run another test. They were content, however, to offer me buspar and klonopin for the intense anxiety I had started to feel, plus a variety of SSRIs for my worsening depression, a statin for my cholesterol, metoprolol to keep my heart rate under 100, amlodipine and losartan to keep my BP out of stroke range, a variety of painkillers and muscle relaxers for my worsening joint issues, rogaine for my hair falling out, testosterone shots (expensive) for my super-low testosterone, many other meds along the way, and finally Seroquel because it must all be in my head. Also along the way I was misdiagnosed with Grave's disease and bipolar disorder. The bass turds they were in the exam rooms, many doctors getting openly hostile. Finally, emboldened by 500 hours of Ninja Nerd and an animal biology degree, I went online and found one of those order-your-own lab test websites. I didn't know about reverse T3 so I didn't order that. I ordered a CBC, CMP, TSH, T3, T4, Hashimoto's antibodies, Graves antibodies, FSH, LH, prolactin, ACTH, Insulin Growth factor-1, growth hormone, testosterone, aldosterone, renin, cortisol, and a couple of other things I don't remember right now that aren't really important. Like always, TSH comes back 0.11 ('cause that's just how my body runs"). Also, ACTH comes back super low. Turns out it was the wrong time of the day when I got the blood drawn for the growth hormone to mean anything, and the cortisol was virtually meaningless, as well. But virtually isn't zero and the cortisol was. I took the results to my doctor and he said he'd order some more tests and see me again in 3 months. Bass turd. I'm living in hell and he wants me to do it another 3 months. So I set about learning to interpret the results I generated myself. Turns out it's not a hypo-pituitarism even though a couple of the pituitary hormones are low. It's the ones that are low and the ones that aren't that matter. The ones that were low are the ones directly controlled by the hypothalamus with only a secondary feedback or no feedback to the pituitary itself. Now, if the ACTH and TSH had been lost LAST, it might point to mass effect from a tumor, possibly a pituitary adenoma, but certainly not a prolactinoma (the most common apparently) since my prolactin was in-range. The only way I could possibly get the results I got is if there was a disruption between the hypothalamus and pituitary. No cosyntropin test or radioactive iodine uptake tests required. I was immediately on a search to get a pituitary/hypothalamus MRI or some kind of imaging that would prove me right. Surprise, surprise--here I am--20 years into this and FINALLY with a diagnosis. Actually, it's several diagnoses, but they all come back to my busted infandibulum which I HAD TO FIGURE OUT MYSELF without the help of a dozen primary care doctors, 4 psychiatrists, 4 cardiologists, 1 pulmonologist (a saint), 2 infectious disease specialists, 6 neurologists (idiots all), and 3 endocrinologists. I was homeless for 3 1/2 of those years. The doctors worked against me. They prevented me from getting on disability with an acute secondary adrenal insufficiency in addition to everything else. They prevented me from getting any government assistance to pay for health care. I was out of the work force for 12 years, homeless for 3 1/2. My opinion of doctors is LOW. Get off KZbin and work up your patients like they were your mother "Dr." Bodle. You smile and act different, but you're one of them. You're part of the problem.

I thought the opposite was told to me about dosage. TSH high -lower the dosage. Dx with Hashimotos/hypothyroiditis in 2005 and believe I was suffering years before dx. What about chronic fatigue? (3 years of bedridden life) What about drugs like metoprolol side effect weight gain? What about tapering off klonopin for 3 years and counting (2mg 25 plus years to .5mg 2024) TSH 4ulU/mL- 137mcg tirosint. Compounding thyroid medication didn’t work over the last 3 years. Tested for other autoimmune diseases and only Hashimotos No effing doctor will have a discussion about my concerns. A pulmonologist, cardiologist, endocrinologist, psychiatrist, primary. My neurologist won’t even take me as a patient for my concerns. ( brain surgery in 2018 to remove benign tumor from right temporal lobe) I’m so angry.

Most processed gluten free foods cause me even more intestinal pain than natural gluten foods, such as enjoy life brownie bites! The ingredients don't show gluten, but within 24 hours all across ny lower back in ny large intestine the pain is so excruciating that it feels like I am being kicked in the back with every movement 😢 Also, most gluten free foods contain soy, maltodexteine, dextrine, carmel color, lots of starches, milk, etc... all ingredients I am allergic and or intolerent of, not to mention the pesticide residue on everything. I found that guar gum works best for my needs with now symptom trigger.

I have been told by a well-known respected gastroenterologist that I needed to eat but stay hungry. He said I needed to learn that hunger is ok. He even has a “weight loss contract” he has his patients complete that has SO much antiquated weight misinformation. He told me I was going to die. Needless to say I didn’t see him again. I have instead worked on getting my body to the point I can exercise without feeling completely wiped out. I’m also trying to figure out what inflames my body. My labs are much better but the weight loss has been not great. I still have much work to do.

All gluten free products where the gluten has been removed, by definition, are ultraprocessed foods, often with artificial additives. I cut down on gluten but can’t avoid it altogether. I’d rather have a bit of gluten than eat something ultraprocessed. Same with dairy. As long as I don’t overwhelm my system with gluten and dairy, I feel ok.
@DrBradBodle
@DrBradBodle 7 күн бұрын
Yep! I totally agree with this. Most of the issues comes from the fact that these things are ultraprocessed and that can be a big challenge for the body. That's great that you've found an approach that works for you because we're all a little different. As you might have seen from some of the other comments, your approach is well tolerated by some and not by others. This is why we need to track how we feel with certain foods and adjust accordingly. Thanks again for sharing! :)
