I've been cooking for about 65 years (but not in a camp oven until recent years) and I successfully tried your damper in the camp oven because I agree wholeheartely with your method of mixing it, and NOT kneading it! Great success! I was also successful in using just a sprinkle of flour and then hanging the preheated oven with a tripod a certain height over the coals, didn't need as much flour in the bottom of the oven. Your way is the best.

Dude, all the vids on KZbin. On this subject. But no one shows how to cut a drum in half lengthwise. Not what u used to do it with but how it's done.
@5mepo52 жыл бұрын
Cheers for watching I will do a how to cut a drum vid soon but i mark a line directly in 1/2 through the top holes then get a 2foot square and mark down the drum either side off each side then follow through with a 1m rule or straitened edge then transfer the line across the bottom of the drum and double check it’s halved then cut with a 5” Grinder with a cut off wheel (Don’t use a drum that’s had flammable Contence in it) If that’s all you have then wash it out completely with water I did this three times filled it then let it soak for a day then empty it and re do a few times until all fumes are not there Hope this helps

I bake very nice sourdough, in my cast iron camp oven, in my gas oven at home. I have had some failures when camp baking over coals. Today I am following this method of baking, particularly the loose flour in the base of the camp oven.

That trick with the flour on the bottom is dead set genius
@graemegladman3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate you must be from outback Queensland or NSW judging by your ocker accent. I love how you did the bottom this is by far the best bottom on KZbin. I think you would be better having the hinge on the bottom of the door so when its open its out of the way and you can see the flames. In fact why do you even need a door when the top is open?
@5mepo53 жыл бұрын
Yes GDay mate I a dweller of both lands and that’s FairDinkum Cobber
@5mepo53 жыл бұрын
Well the reason for the door is to put extra heat or in the updated version smoke wood chip as it’s a smoker as well ????
