Ooooo. How fun! I would love to learn a language in an actual school instead of the internet. I'm considering saving up to attend Middlebury's immersion program!! 🫶🩷✨

The price varies from year to year and depending whether you attend for all four days and whether you order a meal ticket.. Usually between about Euro 150 and 200 for four days + lunch. Check the website for 2025 prices when they appear! No qualifications - just interest and enthusiasm!

Great video! Apparently, Demel quietly changed its recipe a couple of years ago to add another layer of apricot jam in the middle. I guess a lot of people felt the way you did about the two versions. 😊

I bought the book and the back cover states that audio files for the stories are available at the teach yourself website. Does anyone know where they are lurking? It would be very helpful to hear the words spoken as I am learning them.
@Howtogetfluent8 ай бұрын
The website given on the back cover no longer seems to work. The audio is available at Audible but you have to pay after the free 30-day trial, as I understand it.

I've seen some of the content for this course and I can't help but think that he booted up ChatGPT and asked it for a bunch of stories and explanations. Feels kinda cheap for the steep price tag so I'd just stick with his books then get a tutor from iTalki.

I know it's a lot to ask for (especially after 5 years have passed) but it would be incredibly helpful to have subtitles here. Pello is not known for his light-paced manner of speaking and Euskara can be overwhelming on its own, but I know for a fact that he has a lot of interesting things to say:) By the way, his band Zetak has recently released a new album inspired by wider Basque culture. It's really worth checking out
@Howtogetfluent8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, sub-titles would be useful...but too much for me to manage at this stage, I'm afraid. Yes, I've discovered Zetak and love their sound.

Lydia, you make it sound so easy. I have been trying to learn Polish all my life. I finally found a book (I am 71), but it seemed too hard. I found the book again and am committed, but it is still very hard. I am not young like you anymore.

The best method of learning a language must be a three part road for me. Find great music in the target language and listen to it, sing along to the songs translate the lyrics and try to understand the metaphors used or the saying. The repetition is really great. Then find good podcasts and documentaries about cool topics it can come from any of the songs or any interests of your own. Then get to start reading and talking/writing. Talk to yourself as if you have a friend or a celebrity over for a stay. This is after the A1 and A2 levels. Working methodological with things that you love is always great. Then forget about what level you are at. There will come a time when you get "Sprachgefül" so to speak. Lower the expectations and keep going. I am learning German and I found Herbert Grönemeyer and I love his music. He has taken me to documentaries about Ruhrgebiet, Currywurst, Uwe Barschel scandal, Neue Deutsche Welle music and U-boats. Now I'm eager to knit his pullover from Das Boot.
@Howtogetfluent Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! I also like Grönemeyer, though generally I don't really listen to music much, so it doesn't (Im afraid) play much of a part at all in my language learning but it is a great approach, of course. Podcasts and talk radio - absolutely for me! So true about keeping expectations low and keeping going. We all need to find ways to enjoy the journey :)

How's my language learning going? I'd say it's on tick-over at best! Really a bit too passive and not enough of it. It currently consists of 10-15 minutes of Duolingo first thing in the morning and then very passivly hearing live streamed Portuguese TV whislt I make my KZbin thumbnails 6 days a week. I'm getting quick at those so that's only ten minutes a day... I'm hoping to get back to a class becasue it forces me to priorise it. I struggle to do this with so many other things that need to be done every day...
@PlanetImo Жыл бұрын
Do I like structured courses? Theoretically, yes - in practice I'm way more chaotic! Do I like paper flash cards? Yes... though I find the apps quicker, easier and more convenient, especially on public transport and that sort of thing. I gather next years Eisteddfod is not a million miles from where I'm located so I might bump into you!

Very happy to see a new video of you my dear Dr Popkins ! I always liked your channel ! Congrats on being disciplined and consistent on your Japanese ! We truly share the same passion and I hope to see you in October in Budapest ! Did you lose your camera ? the quality looks as if it was shot in 360p and not 720... and we hear the wind a lot, I thought you had a mic with the fluffy thing... Anyway I just started MY OWN KZbin CHANNEL 1 month ago, I uploaded 6 videos so far of me speaking in Russian, German, Portuguese, Italian and Polish, now working on a Ukrainian video ! You are one of my biggest inspirations to start a KZbin channel on language learning and vlogging !

Bonjour Mathias! Thanks for your appreciative comment and was great to hear about your channel. I have now subscribed and it was a good idea to include some live exchanges with teachers in your Russian and German "demo" videos as well as the pieces to camera. I just shot this vlog on my old iphone X and the wind was more of a problem than I thought at the time. My Canon G7X mk 1 is "kaputt" so I need a new camera or at least a newer phone.

@@Howtogetfluent Yes it's always uplifting to read comments on our videos, I now too know how it feels ! Yes I add this in all of my videos to make the editing cooler... you should definitely invest in a buying a new camera, your subscribers will apreciate it ! I bought a Nikon z30 (aka "THE" vlogging camera) to start my YT channel. Will you go to the next Polyglot Conference at the end of October in Budapest ? I hope I will be able to make it... me and my gf are still waiting to move to Nuremberg in the coming weeks, if I am in Germany by then, I am going for sure !
