Having started surfing in Bournemouth and then moving to North Devon, I still return sometimes to the pier I first knew. The magic of south coast surfing never leaves me and your movie brings that magic to mind.

I live in Brighton now, i've been bodyboarding for years but have rently begun to learn to surf whilst in Costa Rica, do you think west pier is suitable spot for a newb like me on a longboard or maybe a long fish?

Hello bud, The west piers not what it used to be but still has its day sometimes. Depends. I'd get yourself down to hotpipes. Friendly local crowd of all abilities. Keep in the know with local site: sharkbait ;)

What time of year was this? I'm new to surfing having taken a handful of lessons down in Newquay but I live in shoreham and thinking of buying a cheap second hand mini mal. Is hotpipes ok for a rookie like me?

Free camping it's forbidden, but police don't control it in most areas, just summer season. The dune system at Rio Sieira and around are actually protected by the Natura 2000 Network. I just say it so we don't get a hundred people camping on the beach :) . Really nice video, congratulations!

Even as a new Brightonian I am captivated by the West pier, I would love to surf beside it... I would love to touch it! The physical space around its solemn structure where once its majesty symbolised the growth of the Victorian era

Where are the best spots to surf near Brighton and in Brighton itself? All over the year or only in Winter? thanks

Hello Marco, we get surf all year round but mainly in autumn/winter. Lots of breaks locally, check www.sharkbait.co.uk - where to surf. You gotta be willing to drop everything to score it, as no sooner than its here, its gone. This week on Wednesday was shoulder high and clean as at the west pier before it got dark. Classic. just keep a close eye on the charts.

Your beautiful film made me very emotional and did shed a tear or two ....love that Pier too even though it is far away from the Canary Islands......stunning surfing and even though I am not a surfer myself I can appreciate your skill !!! Your love of the West Pier really comes through that film...well done Mate !

I'm just about to start surfing in Brighton after living here for 5 years and growing up surfing in Cornwall! have always thought there was no point in Brighton as it doesn't even compare to the waves in Cornwall (and only surf trips back to Cornwall would do!) but this video is very inspirational and it's going to be awesome. Good work

Yeah its important not to forget... Brighton's not great but when you live here, its all you got so best to make the most of it, and on the rare epic days, its even more special. I'm off to live in South Africa soon, and same thing bud, cant wait for warmer water, nice waves etc ;)
