Incredible, I wish it was as easy in the 80s to watch this as it is now. if you didnt watch it when it was broadcasted you would never see it.

This song was my introduction to the wild and wacky world of The Great Daryl Nathan. It was the summer of 1997 in my apartment in Grand Rapids and I was sitting on my couch aimlessly switching through the channels one afternoon when I happened to stop on the public access channel GRTV and this video was playing. My first reaction was delirious laughter but I couldn’t help but keep watching. By the time that International Lover came on, which was the last song for this broadcast, I was all in as a fan. I lost track of him over the years since I moved away to Detroit the following year but I never forgot him. And I just now found out that he passed away 4 years ago to diabetes. My heart is sad but a true entertainer never dies. God Bless, Daryl Nathan.

Punk was really just garage band music sped up and jacked on anarchy. Joan Jett and even the Ramones were more 60’s rock with overdriven Marshall amps. A lot of Joan Jett’s biggest hits are actually remakes of 60’s tunes like Tommy James and the Shondell’s “Crimson and Clover”.

Now it’s 2024, and the only person I know on that stage is Joan Jett.

Tom makes no sense to me. He has all these punk artists on his show, but then he seems to dislike punk music. But he frequently had punk bands on his show. I just don't get it.

these guys are SO slimey. I remember people like that at that time... L.A. yuk. no one even mentions DIY, which is what Punk was/is really all about. btw, Paul Weller - 18 yrs old. wow. and Joan Jett was already a seasoned pro.

It’s amazing how the very young Joan Jett kept so composed in the face of these rude old men. How right she was to say that being part of the Establishment was hard to imagine with her band being women. So cute the way her attention drifted off at one point to listen to Paul Weller.Bill Graham was a shit

New wave and punk rock was not really related music. Music critics and writers seemed to be very confused between the two. Punk rock was rough, loud and angry in sound and lyrics. MOST new wave related to mainstream rock/pop music, bands like the cars, pretenders, Blondie. These bands played traditional styled lyrics with an updated production. Punk bands did not usually use high end production , (that is) orchestra , Horns, and synthesizer , usually no keyboards, and i would say likely never so called "love songs". Joan Jett and Paul (the jam) fit more into the new wave mode.

Tom Snyder actually tried to have intelligent conversations about things that concerned and interested young people so perhaps old people could understand. Didn’t always work, but I tried to never miss a show. I missed this one so glad it has been resurrected. Joan Jett Rules!
