It takes real courage to do what you're doing: All alone with no other hikers on the trail, and the next water source is questionable. I want to be just like you when I grow up!

Most Spanish names with a J are pronounced H or a Y sound. So San Jacinto is San Yacinto

I have a question : What kind of stakes would you recommend in the desert section so far (?) Would Sheppard Hook stakes be better for the rocky dirt (?)

There is places where you cannot get any steaks in I would say a tent that doesn’t need steaks a freestanding one maybe like a copper spur

The scenery all points out just how remote your hiking trip is. What a contrast to your days on the AT. Both are beautiful, but in very different ways. Looks like that coyote was looking for a friend. Stay safe and keep that water jug close at hand and full.

Farmer, the comments on far out are usually pretty good. 3rd gate cache is very dependable.

I noticed two beef meals and lots of Cole slaw. I ate lots of both on the AT, and I craved a big salad whenever I came to a town. Eat well and stay healthy, friend!

Fwiw: San Jacinto = "Sahn-ha-seen-toe," more or less (mas o menos). Peak Refuel Breakfast Skillet was my favorite freeze-dried meal on the Appalachian Trail in '23, when I did half of it before messing my knee up and having to get off trail. It was a good run. I took 40 years to section hike it, then turned right around and headed North from Springer, hoping to do it all in one year, then, one moment's innatention, and it was over. I spent most of '24 getting used to my replacement knee, then sprained my ankle at home the day after returning from a successful weekend AT hike. The sprain must be pretty bad. It's still bothering me 6 weeks later. Hoping to finish the trail later this year. Keep it up. You're doing great!

"...trying to break light..." It doesn't seem to have any problem breaking wind! It's pretty cold in the mornings, especially with that wind! Careful around all those rocks! Take care. Good luck to you, working around the fire area. Prayers for the folks in California who have lost their homes and loved ones. "Vacation" is different for backpackers! Soldier on, brother!

I would seek trail extent with Karst below. To seek undiscovered entry and using Grade-5 cartography explore the extent. Bringing climbing gear and 24 hours of electric light in each of 4 lamps. Since 1964

When in town, get some pantyhose. Prefilter water using pantyhose fitted over dirty water bottle, then use filter into clean water bottles, and of course make sure you back flush the Sawyer filter. Wildlife troughs are water sources but you can get real sick from the water.

Get use to using rocks 🪨 to set up tent out west the ground is too hard. A bivouac bag/tent is a better choice for PCT, lower to ground, lighter weight
