Born in Greece 1897 died in London in 1949, a Tenor who should have had a much better career, sang mostly in Germany in the Twenties and Thirties, but found the strain of living under the Nazi's very difficult and in WW2 suffered great privations, he came to London, where he had appeared in a couple of BBC Concerts of German Opera Singers in 1931 and 1932, also sang at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, but after the war he left Germany and was in a very poor state, impoverished, Homeless, and virtually destitute, health failing he passed away in 1949. I find his voice quite beautiful, but he was better known for his German repertoire in the Thirties, sang in Berlin,, Hamburg, Vienna, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Amsterdam,, Hilversum, Brussels, Dresden, Leipzig and Weimar, he did sing in Italy, but was really not taken by the Italians at all, he was rather fond of the Ladies and he upset some powerful Italian Impressario's with his affairs, he moved to Germany quickly, to avoid trouble, he did sing for Mascagni in Germany. His recordings have become rather rare,, there are also tapes of his voice live in German Houses and he is on Film as well. diolch yn fawr i chi, Prynhawn da.

Could well be Ettore Brancaleoni, with a groove skip obscuring the first two syllables.
@Onkel_Greifenklau21 күн бұрын
An interesting possibility. I will have to listen to my Brancaleoni records and compare the voices.
@Onkel_Greifenklau20 күн бұрын
Comparison with other Brancaleone recordings of the aria proves you right. I think he may be using a shortened form of his name as a pseudonym--I don't think there is a groove skip, although I could, of course, be mistaken.
@truesoundchris20 күн бұрын
@@Onkel_Greifenklau Maybe it isn't your cylinder skipping but a cutting problem in the master already. Or a (rather transparent) attempt at disguising his identity, like Mieli announcing himself as "Mielino" on Edison...

Beautiful performance by one of America’s very finest tenors. Some minor catches in the middle-upper range, probably evidence of the damage his voice sustained singing the notoriously difficult DieTote Stadt earlier.

Thank you for uploading so many Phonodisc Mondial sides. I wonder if anyone knows where, exactly, they were recorded? The orchestrations are very different from the ones being used at the same time by the Gramophone Company or Fonotipia - much fuller, especially in the mid-range instruments, with high lines often doubled in lower registers. And while I haven't listened carefully to all of them, it might be 100% "banda" with no strings at all. At a guess, it sounds like a large band recorded in a large space at a greater distance from the recording horn. It must have been incredibly loud heard in reality - no wonder the singers tend to do everything in a hearty forte. I'm guessing Maestro Martucci felt that overall sonic impact was the way his products could stand out in the market. Acerbi must have had incredible stamina to turn out one aria after another like this.
@Onkel_Greifenklau23 күн бұрын
You're very welcome. There are more to come, including more by Acerbi. I believe they were all recorded in Milan, but I have very little information about them.

Most all our worldly troubles Are only drifting bubbles Most all our cares and sorrows Are gone with our tomorrows So don't you let them fret you Or some day they will get you When skies are gray stop work and play And laugh your cares away CHORUS Just smile and swing along The while you sing a song Your troubles fade away When you are gay If all your cares appear As dark as night You'll find it won't be long With just a song, they'll be alright And when you're feeling blue And so unhappy too When all your skies are gray And shadows fall Things are not what they seem You'll find them just a dream If you will sing a song Swing along too. Just turn your tears to laughter And joy will follow after If May days you remember You'll soon forget December Instead of asking pity Just say you're sitting pretty Then you will see that life will be A wondrous melody CHORUS Just smile and swing along The while you sing a song Your troubles fade away When you are gay If all your cares appear As dark as night You'll find it won't be long With just a song, they'll be alright And when you're feeling blue And so unhappy too When all your skies are gray And shadows fall Things are not what they seem You'll find them just a dream If you will sing a song Swing along too.

I don't think so. At least one other duet with Baldassarri credits her as "E. I know very little about her, but there is some information about her here: www.lavoceantica.it/Soprano/Wroblenska%20Maria.htm. I see that her name is spelled both Wroblewska (as on the label) and Wroblenska. I don't remember where I got the record, but it was probably from a dealer in Italy. She apparently was born in Warsaw in 1888 and studied in Italy.
