3:44 that's a benefit of loosely typed languages rather than interpreted languages. Even a lot of interpreted languages are strongly typed. i.e. Java and even C# (both of which allow you to compile beforehand now)

Commercial content, where AI most excels, is also the source of the worst and most uninteresting art that humans produce. This doesn't bode well for artists as skilled tradesmen but it will have no effect on people doing art for art's sake. Just like the industrial knitting machine hasn't replaced people knitting for it's own sake. We may not need to knit our own socks but some folks still like to knit their own socks.

it's a fun project and it could have potential and I havent watched the full video but tbh from what I saw it's not looking like it's working (because the score most of the time goes down. If it'd work, it would on average go up.) The fact that there's a big jump in score does not mean that it works, it could just be randomly jumping up. Probably you could find similarly good individuals if you just randomly sample the individuals without your evolution method. Maybe I'm wrong, but seems like you're biased towards the few runs that actually worked (but could just be working due to randomness)

Oh just wait until I show you the update 😎

If you are trying to maximize the score, and the higher score is very often the first generation, then there is very likely something wrong with your genetic algorithm. Your species individuals are probably accumulating to much useless mutations that make it difficult for the subsequent mutations to provide a real advantage. This is great work but since the test is so simple and the species are not reliably solving the problem, I think there are still key ingredients missing in your approach. BTW small rant: the thing with gradient descent is not just that it is faster, it is that genetic algorithms are by essence exponentially slower with respect to the number of dimensions (as GA can only identify relevant score change directions by pure chance). So slow that you can only optimize models with a small number of parameters in a reasonable time. Yes, human brains are optimized by evolution, but then another process takes over (the brain is not static) and this second process that takes over once born probably look very much like gradient descent. The best approach is thus probably to combine the two somehow (I am doing experiments of my own in this direction). You can also wait for your GA to "discover" GD by itself, but you would need patience and a very flexible and dynamical model for this. It might not be worth if you can just implement GD and "make it available" to the GA instead.

Please keep on pioneering ai. Beacause the current direction won’t work out in the long run. We have to be able to understand why the brain of the ai looks the way it looks. And we have be able to create an agi. Or at least an ai which uses multiple other ai‘s to solve multiple types of problems

I can recommend experimenting on grokking, it’s such an interesting concept. I firmly believe theres a deeper level of grokking as well that hasn’t been discovered. Obviously here you can‘t really make the model sizes too big, if you want to train everything locally.

The rarely visible dark side of KZbin. One of the reasons why YT Red flopped horribly. They tried to pressurize people into buying it, and did things like what they did with ESPN's channel. And once they figured out that it's not what the users really want at the moment, they backed off but it was already way too late.

I think most of you fail to admit the reason for almost all of his stuff is not for earth. Think of all this stuff being used on Mars. Space X gets you there, the boring company bores out an underground habitat to protect colonists from solar radiation on a planet without much atmosphere, a cyber truck that doesn't NEED windows to operate since it is self driving and has plenty of cameras, wireless internet from Starlink to help those cars navigate and people to communicate, etc. Do that and the ideas change.
